Not one damn Republican sign at the voting site. Lining the roads leading into the parking lot were Harris Walz, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Vote Yes on Amendment 4 signs....not one red sign in the bunch. It was glorious. I guess they really are running out of campaign funds thanks to Trump's litigation woes.

I know what you mean.
I thought there were substantial blue enclaves in Florida, but the panhandle was ruby red. No?

(27,362 posts)Trump only won by 3.5% meaning there were almost certainly areas of blue. There were.

Is that Tallahassee?
I guess I'm surprised (pleasantly) that there is a significant blue area that far north.

(7,588 posts)It's what has been termed the epicenter of Florida's Helene damage. Desanti's clean-up crews may not be as johnnie-on-the-spot as they have been in past years. That might rub some of his most worshipful, to-the-last-man, supporters the wrong way. Especially if those contractor's employees don't speak English.

(24,851 posts)I have voted on the first day of early voting since it became a thing in Florida. I usually breeze in and out in under 5 minutes. Took 45 today.
I think I may have convinced the guy in front of me in line to vote Yes on 3. No way was I getting into a conversation about 4 when he disclosed he thought it gave doctors the ability to do a gender reassignment surgery on a minor without parental consent. I emphatically corrected him of that notion, but no time or inclination to go down that rabbit hole any further.

(6,234 posts)Turns out she moved to Florida in December of last year, and when she was registering her car at the DMV they asked her if she would like to also register to vote, "I told them I wanted to, but I haven't gotten anything from them, nothing in the mail or nothing. I wonder if I'm actually registered. And I didn't get that thing you're holding in your hand (my sample ballot) either. Am I supposed to have one of those?" I explained it was a sample ballot and showed it to her. When she handed it back to me she said a little too loudly, "Well I'm only here to vote for one person and one person only because that's all I care about!" I then gave her the number for our election supervisor and while waiting in line she called and found out that nope she wasn't registered and now it is too late. Oh, darn!

(10,367 posts)At least here in NC - until the Trumpsters stop it - one can register to vote during early voting and vote same day. I guess Floriduh really wanted to disenfranchise its population.
Native
(6,234 posts)I mean she had since December to get her s*** together so she could vote for her man, and she was unable to manage that.

(5,887 posts)That my request for absentee ballots needed to be renewed. I did that right away (before the primary in August) and received our General Election ballots a few weeks ago. We filled them out and mailed them back. I checked today and they have been received by the Office of the Supervisor of Elections! Yay! Now all thats left is to tally our ballots and report the total on election night after polls close. Oh, and crack open some bubbly after Harris Walz win in a landslide! 🥂🍾🥂🍾🥂
Native
(6,234 posts)I've had numerous conversations with the people in our Supervisor of Elections office, and while they are southern nice, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed, and they are pretty open about their party affiliations. In other words, I'm not confident that even if they say my mail-in ballot has been received and counted that it's been received and counted.

(243 posts)I worked the elections here as an assistant precinct coordinator and I can tell you that the Elections Office were run efficiently. I worked for a couple of supervisors and they were all very competent, irregardless of party affiliation. So maybe her registration got lost somewhere along the line, understandable, but dont show up 11 months later when you have not heard from them and expect to vote. I quit the job in 2016 because I could hardly stand the stupidity and ignorance of some people. Most have no idea of what is going on, but show up on Election Day as an afterthought and expect to vote. BTW, she could have checked online, even register to vote online.

(24 posts)I voted today in a very red area within the Florida panhandle. There was a woman standing in front of the parking lot with a vote NO on Amendment 4 sign. I rolled down my window and told her that I was definitely voting YES on Amendment 4 (right to abortion). On the way out I stopped again and told her that I voted YES on 4 and NO on Trump. Lol.
I'm not really sure what chance Amendment 4 has of meeting the threshold. I hope it passes. I have no illusions that we have a realistic shot of winning Florida. I believe it is out of reach due to the massive GOP voter registration advantage in Florida. I believe it is also unlikely that Mucarsel-Powell can defeat Rick Scott in the Senate race. But I do believe that she has an outside shot; a much better chance than Harris has of winning the State of Florida. I hope both of our candidates can defy the odds.

Scott was pressured to resign as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997. During his tenure as chief executive, the company defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal programs.
The Department of Justice won 14 felony convictions against the company, which was fined $1.7 billion in what was at the time the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history.
Following his departure from Columbia/HCA, Scott became a venture capitalist and pursued other business interests.

It's not that much a distance really. If the ground's soft enough 100-150ft from a location's door, it's usually filled with campaign signs.
Native
(6,234 posts)And the parking area is probably only two rows deep, so basically you enter into the space and you are confronted with an entire drive of signs situated basically right in front of the building prior to entering a parking space.
