Couldn't happen to a more deserving idiot propagandist, although it's sad for the workers at his factories.
There are other and better EVs on the market now, Ford's Mustang Mach-E, F150 Lightning are pretty good alternatives.

(33,336 posts)Tesla's sales in the third quarter of 2024 were 462,890 vehicles, a 6.4% increase from the same quarter in 2023. This was the first quarter of 2024 that Tesla saw a rise in quarterly deliveries. The increase was due to strong performance in China and financing deals offered to counter high interest rates.

(27,362 posts)The WSJ article was published in April. The data was from October and November 2023.
The part that is false is that it's breaking news. It's obviously not. It's year-old data.

(53,394 posts)Going back to the 1st quarter and 2nd quarter of 2024, Teslas year-over-year sales drops were 8.5% and 4.8%, respectively. As your CleanTechnica article goes on to point out, Tesla "will still need a strong 4th quarter in order to log sales growth in 2024." So no, the OP headline is not "false," former9thward. Tesla's sales in 2024 are down. The overall Tesla sales picture that your own CleanTechnica article describes shows Tesla sales look like they are trending down, not up.
And you can't blame it on a marketwide EV sales slowdown. The so called EV sales slowdown is mostly a Tesla sales slowdown, according to sales data. Tesla may be in trouble, but other EVs are selling just fine. Almost every other automaker is seeing double-digit EV sales growth. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/06/ev-sales-slowdown-is-mostly-a-tesla-problem-according-to-sales-data/

(9,162 posts)The Tesla Cybertruck was the third bestselling EV in the U.S. in the third quarter, defying conventional wisdom. Used prices, meanwhile, are falling as more new Cybertrucks flood the market.
Despite a lavish price tag starting at about $100,000, the Tesla pickup outsold every EV in the U.S. in the third quarter except for the Model Y and Model 3, according to Cox Automotive, which owns Kelley Blue Book.

The only "new" computer I've bought this last decade was a Raspberry Pi 4.
The last and only time I'll ever buy a new car was when I was young and foolish, back in the 'eighties.

Not sure why that channel is claiming that it's breaking news. It's not. It's year-old data from a six-month-old report.

(7,409 posts)This is a "developing" story though. Leon Loses a lot of potential customers who lean Democratic (inside the US of A) every hour and there are a lot of new (and better) EVs on the market today (and in the coming years).
I get he sells a lot abroad but that will change overtime as competitors will take bites at his market shares.

https://electrek.co/2024/10/21/elon-musk-delusionally-believes-trump-support-not-affecting-tesla-claims-sales-all-time-highs/
Whether dems are boycotting Tesla or not, it cant help that the idiot ceo is spending all his time humping Trump over focusing on his job.
Also re:Tesla being a shitty car, it probably is not. I have no idea. But I dont think EVs alone will fix our environmental crises without many other switches to a less consumption oriented lifestyle.
And it is not as if he personally probably has anything to do with the design of the car. Tesla engineers are probably pretty competent and at least some of them probably consider him an embarassing bloviating idiot.

(6,143 posts)Couple of years back, Tesla cars were seen as progressive, unique and a hope for the future in terms of renewable and cheaper motive energy.
I imagine a lot of people wanted one, and still do, but are holding off because their current gas powered car is really too good to dump, so yeah I'd say they are thinking . . . some time in the future.
Then Elon started playing silly bugger political games and certain Asian makers said . . . hold my beer, and see what we can do!
Two things that put me off, beyond the above - little motivation locally to put EV chargers in convenient spots - any spots really - and the few Teslas I have seen just look low budget and unfinished. (No idea what models I've seen though.)
