CNN has released a story today saying that in 2007, Kamala Harris "lifted language" from a Republican district attorney when he testified before a Senate committee. Harris later testified before a House committee on the same topic, and her statement does contain 80% of the Republican DA's testimony, BUT...
Both were testifying because they were members of the National District Attorneys Association. The NDAA had drafted the initial testimony for both appearances, and had made use of much of the previous Senate testimony for Harris's later House appearance.
In other words, this plagiarism charge is a buncha damn BS.

EDITED: Oh, my dear Lordt, they got this story from Chris Rufo. Chris GD Rufo fed them this line of BS and they couldn't even be bothered to do the least bit of counter-investigation into it.

(27,538 posts)Which is the same thing you're saying, so I'm not sure what the problem is. They also quote an expert who says it's no big deal and an extremely common practice. Perhaps you stopped reading after your excerpt.
Kamala Harris represented California state prosecutors as a member of the Board of Directors of NDAA and was testifying in that capacity two months later before the House Judiciary Committee, he told the Beacon. I believe she also relied on NDAA staff support for her opening statement.

In social media:
The article provides a lot of punch-pulling. The headline and the social media blurbs are the bullshit I'm talking about. Most people don't read more than that. CNN knows this and they aimed for the bullshit to get the clicks. Good job providing them some more with the link.

(20,141 posts)then that IS the headline. The real news is that the rightwing is lying and smearing Harris. That should be reflected in the headline and should be the main focus.

(5,099 posts)CNN is a joke. It doesn't surprise me that they would run with this BS as they try to appear to be fair by criticizing both sides even if it means making sh*t up to do it.
