I would speculate either he's trying distract from General Kelly confirming Trump is a fascist or the right wing made up a fake story and are using Halperin to bait a reputable news source into taking the story so the Trump campaign can present themselves as victims of the "liberal media" with the fake news or the least likely scenario is that it's actually real story that some reputable news outlet has and Halperin got wind of it and is trying to preemptively discredit it on behalf of Trump.
