Friend said they voted in a very red area of Raleigh region. There was only 1 red hat there. Everyone dressed in blue! And a bunch of nice folks as well. (Must not have been magats.)

(2,227 posts)I've been wearing a red baseball cap since I was old enough to wear one. Still do, but it's a St Louis Cardinals cap. And it's nice fitted cap not a cheesy one size fits all Chinese cheap peice of crap. Fuck em!

(52,550 posts)so even as that place was in a red area it wouldn't necessarily have only red voters. But still a good report.

(24,694 posts)but if that man's red hat had a Trump slogan, it would be illegal to be wearing it within 50 feet of any polling place in California.

(3,066 posts)No electioneering within so many feet of the building and no candidate/political slogan clothing allowed inside, either. Ive seen people who were told theyd have to remove said items, or leave.

(1,027 posts)There's a cut off point where people can even approach you with political materials. It's been like this for years and years now.
Where we normally vote, there used to be tents set up with people wanting to talk to everyone about who to vote for, but there hasn't been anything like that for the last six elections or so. Too close to be able to set up, it's at a school with very little land near enough to make it even viable.

(29,622 posts)continues to be that republicans will vote for TCFSF because he's a republican. The Lincoln Project, The Bulwark, Republican Voters Against Trump, are all made up of republicans or former republicans. 40 out of 44 of his former staffers or cabinet members.
my guess, and i lived in North Raleigh (Lake Lynn) for 8 1/2 years, is that many republicans in that area are voting for the sane one this election. I hope like hell I am right.
In 2008 I registered voters at Strickland and Leesville. 3 republicans and 2 Democrats! I was volunteering for the Obama campaign lol

(18,371 posts)I'm just curious, because a MAGA hat, or any hat or item of clothing with a political slogan or the name of a candidate would not be allowed in a polling place in my state (Illinois). That is considered electioneering, and electioneering in any form is forbidden by law within 100 feet of a polling place. However, I know each state has its own laws about this kind of stuff, and I'm curious about how it works in other states.

(24,835 posts)It may be that the absence/reduced presence of red hats is a result of folks just choosing not to wear them.
They might have to remove the hats and hide them somewhere before being allowed in the voting area because, as you pointed out, it could be electioneering.
Not seeing red hats wouldn't necessarily mean anything about the voter's political affiliation or their possible choices.
It simply means that they aren't wearing red hats.
Just like the absence of heat doesn't necessarily mean that it's cold. Or if you're naked that you don't have any clothes.
It's when the hats are worn that we might make generalized assumptions about the wearers.

(253 posts)Im in Wilmington. Purple city surrounded by very red areas. I voted on Sunday. It was hard to tell affiliations except that the Rs were passing out white sample ballots and the Ds sample ballots were blue. I saw far more people holding white ballots than blue. 😢
Working the campaign Ive seen a lot of enthusiasm with tons of volunteers. Our ground game is definitely better than theirs. Im hopeful, but anxious. This is going to be a nail biter here in NC.
