New polling from the United Auto Workers (UAW) shows Kamala Harris with a commanding 22-point lead over Donald Trump among union members in key battleground states. This surge in support underscores the effectiveness of the UAW's expansive political engagement program, which has reached nearly 300,000 active and retired members, as well as their families, across states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.
The poll, which covers crucial swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada, highlights the success of the UAWs outreach efforts. Among members who have been contacted by the union regarding the presidential election, Harris lead grows to 29 points. The UAW's strategy, including door-to-door campaigns, worksite conversations, and phone and mail programs, has been critical in boosting support for Harris.
In Michigan alone, over 200,000 union households have been reached through these efforts. The union's focus on economic issues such as protecting overtime pay, halting offshoring, expanding retirement security, and combating corporate greed has resonated deeply with members, especially those without a college degree. In fact, Harris now holds a five-point lead among white UAW members without a college degree, a demographic that has leaned toward Trump in past elections.
UAW President Shawn Fain emphasized the importance of direct member-to-member conversations. "When members hear directly from other members about whats at stake and which candidate will have their backs, were able to break through," Fain said. He also pointed out the contrasting records of the candidates, stating, "Harris has been in our corner in tough fights. Trumps been a scab who passed NAFTA 2.0 and wants to bust unions."

(12,130 posts)My cousin works at a UAW auto plant in Michigan, unfortunately the last I knew she was a tRump supporter. I never could understand how a union member (who also happens to be lesbian) could ever in my wildest dreams support him. We haven't spoken in quite some time, hopefully these outreach efforts have helped her see the light.
AND a big hats off to the Harris campaign and the UAW for this massive effort.
