Finally, a plausible explanation why Trump supporters stick with Trump...

..no matter what depraved thing he’s said or done. We understood that “cruelty was the point,” but thanks to Tom Nichols at the Atlantic we now know that it’s not just the promised overt retribution against the people they don’t like, but just the fact that we can’t stand Trump is enough, as Nichols explains:

“It's well established that the appeal to Trump from his hardcore fans is that he disgusts all of the people they hate — and if Trump does more of that, all it does is make them cling to him tighter. “

Authoritarian Nightmare by John Dean and Bob Altemeyer, you will get some more insight into why they support him. They make it very clear, they site trials from decades ago studying why people need authoritarian figures (which are just as viable today), they do a great job of clarifying for those of us normal people totally baffled by why someone would support such a cretin. Well-written and fascinating. Can't recommend it enough.
