Susan Olsen Claims 'Brady Bunch' Revival Was Canceled Due To Donald Trump Support, Views On Covid Vaccines & Anti-Trans

https://deadline.com/2024/10/susan-olsen-brady-bunch-revival-canceled-due-donald-trump-support-1236156865/comment-page-3/#comments
Susan Olsen, best known for playing Cindy Brady in The Brady Bunch, claims that CBS canceled a sitcom revival due to her political views.

In a new interview, Olsen says a sequel show was scrapped due to her support of Donald Trump, her views on Covid vaccines, and her stance on the LGBTQ+ community.

“I am what I was going to portray, so what kind of show would this be if I can’t say anything controversial?” Olsen said on the Walk Away Campaign podcast.

In the updated Brady Bunch series, Olsen would have reprised her role of Cindy Brady and play a Libertarian podcaster.

who would be what the writers would imagine Cindy Brady to have become, not what Susan Olsen is.

I can't really picture what a revised series would be. One assumes that at least most of the kids would have gone to college, gotten jobs, moved away, possibly married and had children. With 6 original kids, consider the size of a cast and the difficulties deciding what to show.

If this were a one off special or movie, it would work if the 6 original kids were back for some kind of reunion.

Did she shop her idea to other networks?

Kelsey Grammer, Tim Allen, Patricia Heaton, Tom Selleck (and even Rosanne) are conservatives with known acting ability and somewhat built in audience that have had TV successes far more current than this entitled has been child "actress" from the 70's. She might be perfect for a guest role on a show like The Love Boat or Fantasy Island if those horrendous shows were still in production, but evidently an entire show revolving around her was not deemed profitable. Meh.

Perhaps try out a real podcast cohosted with Kurt Cameron or Scott Baio?

Then something must have happened to her, because after that she publicly and proudly came out as a full scale racist. The last I remember seeing of her was over 10 years ago and she had already turned into a vile person. I had no idea she was a homophobe and a vaccine denier too but I shouldn't be surprised. It's all so very sad. I wonder what her on-screen father Robert Reed (who was gay) would think of her now.

but there are tons of articles confirming her racism & Homophobia. No, she didn't have a substance abuse problem. She's is just a proudly openly homophobe and racist. She is a vile human being.

But Olsen said CBS raised concerns about having her return for the reboot after learning of a 2016 incident where she reportedly called actor Leon Acord-Whiting an anti-gay slur in a private message after he was a guest on her political radio show.

At the time, LA Talk Radio said it does "not tolerate hateful speech by anyone associated with our radio station" and had "severed our ties" with Olsen. The actress claimed on the podcast this incident was misreported and that she wasn't fired, though she stopped doing her political show.

In light of this incident, Olsen said CBS asked her to take a "political correctness" course, and she agreed. But CBS subsequently did further research and came up with "50 pages of dangerous" statements she has made, she alleged. ...
...Olsen claimed. "To be honest, those 50 pages were like my greatest hits. I stand by everything I said."

Note she also lied when she said she wasn't fired. The radio station confirmed she was fired.

is that I saw a recent interview with her and she seemed like she had been on something in the past. Throughout the years she did interviews and seemed very chipper and pretty nice personality and now it seemed different. Maybe a rough patch in her life caused substance abuse. Certain Maureen McCormick had a horrendous drug problem. I read her book. I didn't realize how bad it was because she always looked good on the outside.

https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/brady-bunchs-susan-olsen-fired-as-radio-host-after-homophobic-rant-w455079/

ord-Whiting then took the feud a step further and shared a screenshot of an expletive-filled private message that Olsen allegedly sent him on Facebook, which read: “Hey there little p–sy, let me get my big boy pants on and Reallly take you on!!! What a snake in the grass you are you lying piece of s–t too cowardly to confront me in real life so you do it on Facebook. You are the biggest f—-t ass in the world the biggest p–sy! ... it's not just her views. Conservative/Republican views are not unwelcome in "Hollywood land." Rude and unprofessional is not celebrated. She is "over the top" and could give the "Brady Bunch" reunion a backlash - and that could harm whatever is left of the franchise.

But she was just saved from a ton of embarrassment. Conservative comedy doesn't work 99% of the time. You have pan-flashes like Andrew Dice Clay, but they don't stick around. There's a small audience that enjoys the punching-down that's endemic of right-wing comedy, but an even smaller part that sticks around as the jokes just repeat themselves. She would have just embarrassed herself and ruined the Brady image. Take away the Brady name - how interesting does a show about a podcaster of any political stripe sound? It would have devolved (if not started out as) heavy-handed political preaching to the choir because the type of comedy and its audience don't get nuance.

Has anyone seen Jim Breuer lately? He was formerly on SNL and had a successful run as a mainstream stand-up comedian about 20 years ago. Somewhere along the line, he literally went insane. He is apparently the favorite comedian of the MAGA world now. But if you watch even 2 minutes of his act, you'll want to poke your eyes out. Seriously, the recent clips I've seen of him are truly the most painfully unfunny "comedy" I've ever seen. I honestly can't figure out what is even supposed to be funny about it. But MAGAs love it.

She would have ruined it. They should just have had Jennifer Runyon play the part of Cindy. She played Cindy in the 1988 TV movie "A Very Brady Christmas" and would do an excellent job with the role if they did go ahead with this production. Susan Olsen would ruin the show.
