The only thing we learn from history is we don't learn from history. The Germans should have stopped Hitler before he gained too much power and could only be stopped by a World War. Millions lost their lives as a result.
Yet many are too willing to ignore the words coming out of tsf's own mouth and all the alarms being sounded by our current and former Presidents, our current Presidential candidate, and the men who risked their lives to keep this country safe and free.
In my opinion, if people don't wake up and realize tsf should never be allowed, no matter what happens in the election, to wield that much unchecked power we will be just as responsible for what he does to victimize the people he targets as the Germans who did nothing to stop Hitler before the Holocaust were.

(3,248 posts)It's not about his entire political philosophy.
I am just finally agreeing that he was right. That we don't learn from past mistakes. We know what Adolph Hitler did. We know trying to appease him, and treating him like he could be reasoned with failed horribly.
Yet now we have tsf quoting Hitler, basically admitting he wants to enact Hitler like policies, but some people are willing to vote for him in spite of that, or some even because of that. Still other people, who even though they won't vote for him, refuse to realize how dangerous he his. They think he's a just typical political opponent, that we can beat by sticking to Marquess of Queensbeery rules, all the while he's acting like Genghis Kahn.
So what good does knowing the mistakes of the past do anyone, if much of humanity insists on repeating them anyway?

(61,465 posts)... Right Hegelians tend to be religious, Left tend to be socialists.

"Many of the members of the Hegelian right went on to have distinguished careers in public academia or the Lutheran Church. As a school, they were closely associated with the University of Berlin, and held many of the chairs of philosophy and theology there. Generally, the philosophers of the Hegelian right have been neglected; their fame, if not their reputations, has been eclipsed by the Young Hegelians, including Bruno Bauer and Karl Marx. They left their mark chiefly in theology. Their efforts did not have the intended effect of bolstering a sense of the inevitability of faith as a product of history; rather, they pioneered the introduction of higher criticism by demonstrating the influence of an era on the development of Christianity. Other members of the Hegelian Right included the Erlangen School of Neo-Lutherans, whose influence continues to the present day in confessional Lutheranism."
As a Lutheran who took Philosophy at Akron U, it was a sinecure of Right Hegelians (mostly Catholic) with one Leftie who had to fight to keep his tenure. I was (am) a leftie. It was a sort of a proto-existantialism. I'm more progressive than most Hegelians, even the Lefties.

(13,126 posts)I suspect that Hitler's propaganda campaign got into geat after he took power, in that he got the police and military behind him, which thanj goodness did not happen here.
And shitler expressed his desire to gain that.

(3,248 posts)I just hope we have enough smart people who understand we can't give tsf a second chance to try and achieve his goals.

(7,927 posts)I always say the Jewish Germans who left early before the war broke out were called hysterical too.
There was a window in 1922 during? After? the Beer Hall putsch when he was sentenced to prison but only served 9 months instead of the 5 years he was sentenced.
Thats where we are now. This is the last gasp of the GOP to pull off this whole Project 2025.
If we dont stop them now

I dont know how plain Trump has made it. He Wants to Rule as A Dictator.
That being said I feel optimistic that Harris and Walls have the umph to pull this off.

(3,248 posts)or "your just being swayed," by the media is said. You're right tsf is admitting he wants to be a dictator himself. If anything the media is underplaying the danger he represents.
I don't know how many times, I've heard, "something like genocide or prison camps could never happen here." My response is tell that to spirits of the slaughtered Native Americans, the Africans who were kidnapped and sold into slavery, the Japanese Americans, who were put in interment camps, or those Irish immigrants who were worked like cattle, became ill, died and then buried in mass pits. America's soul is not spotless. So those who think it won't happen here are naive fools.
