"A town hall analysis breaking down the policies Kamala Harris was asked about Wednesday night abruptly flipped into a discussion about the inconsistencies in how the vice president and Donald Trump are being treated, with one CNN panelist declaring: Theyre not taking the same exam.
He gets to be lawless, she has to be flawless. Thats what's unfair. That's what's unfair tonight, said former Obama White House official Van Jones. They're not taking the same exam. Look, she has policies, she may not articulate them perfectly every time
but shes fighting for actual ideas that will help real people and hes talking about peoples penises, and so they are not taking the same exam and thats pissing people off its pissing me off.
The moment came just after Harris wrapped up a town hall with CNNs Anderson Cooper that was originally scheduled as a presidential debate before Trump dropped out and later refused to commit to holding his own town hall with the network.

In that double standard conversation the rethug pundits weren't concerned about that double standard, they were "concerned" that VP Harris might consider ending the filibuster. The filibuster that was created to support slavery.

(1,730 posts)A big fat ZERO is what you get when you don't show up for an important exam. Automatic fail.
You might--MIGHT--get a chance to make it up, but you don't normally get to negotiate the terms of said make-up. And if you don't even bother to SHOW UP for the make-up? Holy shit!
But see....that's why Trump has somehow lived 78.5 years without ever growing up. He's lived those 78.5 years by a set of rules different from most everyone else. He's come to expect it. It's infuriating, really...

Shark Tanks Kevin OLeary Prefers Investing With Women. Heres Why.
By Jack Otter

Id give money to a goat if I could get a return, says Kevin OLeary, I really dont care. An investor best known for playing the tough guy on a panel full of tough characters on the reality venture-capital show Shark Tank, OLeary is making the point that he has no political or social agenda. Hes all about capitalism.
snip...
So it is surprising, to say the least, that OLeary invests almost exclusively in companies founded and run by women. That approach sounds an awful lot like gender lens investing, a subset of ESG that aims to boost returns by investing in companies with female leadership, or that are dedicated to improving womens lives. (For more on this, see Improving Womens Issues Leads to Better Investment Returns.) OLeary, who ran for prime minister of Canada on the conservative line, doesnt come off like a gender-lens investing kind of guy. But he is adamant: After taking stakes in 39 companies through Shark Tank, he has gotten significantly better returns from start-ups founded and run by women. And he doesnt think its a coincidence.
The single most important factor in the outperformance of female entrepreneurs, OLeary says, is their tendency to set reasonable goals for growth. Men, he says, often set testosterone targets, crazy goals that they only hit 60% of the time. There are many benefits to setting achievable goals, including cash managementwhen your growth assumptions are accurate, you can manage your cash flow properly. If growth comes in far below assumptions, you might run out of money before youre generating enough to cover costs.
snip...
Studies have suggested that gender diversity in the C-suite and on corporate boards leads to better performance. Among other things, research has shown a correlation between gender diversity on corporate boards and lower volatility. And one theory with some, but not unanimous, scientific basis posits that women tend to be more risk-averse. That hypothesis strikes a cord with OLeary, who wants a hedge against the inherently risky proposition of funding start-ups.

(140,282 posts)but the bottom line is that they CAN'T have a n***er woman show up and outperform the criminal white supremacist fascist loser that the media supports.
The brief time I caught included the pretzel-twisting idiocy on CNN that whined about her "discussing policy", claiming "people want to know more about her", that then comes back to whining about her "discussing herself", but insisting "people want to know more about her policy".
They are fucking racists. Straight up.

The White Man's Pass.
A plurality of Americans give deference to those they perceive as powerful. The model of power for them is a rich white male fighting to preserve privilege for rich white males. The rapist is just that.
It's a richly American practice to give white men like trump the White Man's Pass. It's given by all elements of our society including (especially) the corporate press/media.

(679 posts)I was shocked about the criticisms I heard from Dana Bash, in particular. I thought Kamala did a great job! She's a real human being and you could see her answering some incredibly difficult questions on her feet. There are not any politicians I can think of who would subject themselves to that and do any better. Her answers on inflation and Israel Gaza were not perfect because THERE IS NOTHING PERFECT TO SAY ABOUT EITHER OF THESE SITUATIONS!!! These are both very complicated issues for many different reasons. CNN was worse than I even expected it to be.

(6,843 posts)The Senate has to do that.
The best we could hope for is, if Harris wins and the Senate stays in the hands of the Democrats, for a change in the rules to exempt certain legislation from filibuster.
This could be used on legislation for budget, voting rights, civil rights, women's reproductive rights, and confirmation of appointments made by the President.
As it stands now, the Senate is essentially non-functional when it comes to controversial legislation.
Changes to the filibuster process are needed to make the Senate work again.
