InNOut burgers are really tasty, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. I highly recommend them. I just have to restrict my consumption because hamburger makes my cholesterol rise.

BK has the very tasty Impossible Burger and Chipotle has sofritas, a shredded spiced tofu, to add as your protein choice for their salad, bowl or burrito offerings. Havent patronized a McD in many years other than to use their facilities.

(5,410 posts)They were new to the West Coast, and we stopped off in our travels to try one. The windows and walls were covered with self-congratulatory propaganda, including one that proclaimed "We make 'em the way you like: juicy and well-done!" I was curious to see how they could do both. The answer was they can't. They conflate juicy and greasy.
The second-and-final time was when I was again out, was feeling low-blood-sugared and it was next-door to where it been shopping. When I ordered my burger I went to great lengths to make sure they left it the onions (major gastric distress inducing intolerance). When I got my burger and left, I discovered that while they had indeed left off the onions, they'd assembled the burger using the same spatulas they'd used to fry up the onions they use.
Now, as a former restaurant owner, I am sorry when anyone invests and loss their money, but I found it ironic that someone opened up a Five Guys across the street from the local mom-and-pop burger place in the small-but-larger-than-where-I-live town where my specialists work, a few years before the Pandemic. The Five Guys closed within a year (not due to COVID). Nipp's is still there.

(28,407 posts)as are many others. It's not really the company's fault and there are probably plenty of other franchisees who would never have him in the door.

(1,203 posts)I think for many franchised businesses, the franchisee needs approval from corporate to do something that can be construed as political. ( Like this). In this case McDonald's corporate owns the fallout from this as much as the franchisee.
NJCher
(37,543 posts)It all goes by the franchisee agreement. Do you think they thought to write "you cannot promote Donald Trump" into the franchisee agreement?
The franchisee informed headquarters that he was going to do this. The corporation tried to dissuade him but you know how it is, disuading MAGATs.
How do I know? I used to work for them in marketing and I still have friends who work in Oak Brook, IL.

(1,203 posts)I was going by what I read in news articles. From an AP article: "McDonald's Corp. agreed to host former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania store over the weekend" That certainly makes it sound like corporate had to approve it and that they did approve. (What is Corp "agreeing" to then if they don't have any power to stop the franchise from doing what they want?) But If you say that's not the case, I can't argue with you - you would know. I had no intent of posting anything incorrect.
I will answer your question though. You ask "Do you think they thought to write "you cannot promote Donald Trump" into the franchisee agreement?" Of course not. But I can certainly see a franchise agreement containing language prohibiting hosting any activity which could be seen as a partisan political event. In fact, if I owned a corporation with franchises, I would definitely put such language in any franchise agreements. Something like this which implies taking sides reflects just as badly on the corporation as it does the franchise.
NJCher
(37,543 posts)I'm sure you'll agree that this is how trump gets away with so much bad behavior: he goes places no one else would dream of because they lack the low moral fiber he has.
Re usage of the word "corp," that is a reportage problem.
From what I know from my friends still at the company, most employees are vehemently pro Harris/Walsh. The company itself, however, is very savvy pr-wise and would never publicly endorse a candidate.
While McDonalds sells food I'd never eat, they remain in my mind as a good employer and one that consistently strived for value for their customers. They may be having a few problems right now, but think back on the many years they had no problems and yet still served millions of burgers.
Wiz Imp
(1,203 posts)Unfortunately, I think a lot of people who have major issues with Trump will come away from this incident with a more negative opinion of McDonald's in general.

(6,033 posts)that the franchisee wasn't bound by some sort of stipulation in his licensing agreement prohibiting acts that portray McD's in a negative light. You can't get more toxic than red don.

(2,457 posts)I don't eat a lot of fast food, but I do stop there now and then. There is no normal restaurant in this small town that makes a good burger, believe it or not. I mean, how hard is that? We did have a great place for burgers, but it closed down, so now all we have are duds again. (There is also no place to get a good steak here.) Anyway, even though it is a bit out of my way compared to McD's, I have decided to never patronize them again. As soon as an outlet is tainted by the stench of trump, we quit going there (pizza places, Home Depot, etc.). I'm not an Arby's fan, and our Wendy's has gotten some very bad reviews for their handling of food so they are out. BK it is when I need a quickie burger fix!

(37,543 posts)Go to a salad restaurant: One of these is opening near me in the next week or two:
https://www.justsalad.com/menu
And it won't be the only salad restaurant in the neighborhood. There's a SaladWorks about a mile away.
But nevertheless, I will still make my own salads. Grow my own lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers. I am not above stealing some good ideas off their menus.
