In the closing week of this presidential contest, I have had the opportunity to communicate with old friends and relatives -- including with a couple that are sadly in the maga cult. Among the Democrats, there is primarily confidence, though there is a bit of anxiety and frustration. But both of the sociopathic felon's followers display the classic and very unattractive features associated with fear.
People who are not afraid do not try to set fires in ballot boxes.

I got a letter from the County Board of Elections today. It read, in part, that they received my mail-in ballot, and "upon receipt, for both envelopes, the mailing envelope and the mailin , there appears to be some tampering where the enveloped were sealed. Both envelopes seem to have been opened and then taped to reseal them.
I live in a majority republican county. Independents are the next largest group, followed by Democrats. So I'm pleased that those CBE are honest, and sent me another ballot. And it is already in the mail.
I spoke with a lot of relatives and friends today. They go from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean, and lots of places in between. All are Democrats, and have ben politically active for many, many years. One aunt was Rep. Matt McHugh's top aide back in the day (1975 through 1993). Districts are different today, but I am happy that it appears like Josh Riley will beat Rep. Marc Molinaro in their rematch in the 19th.

(44,046 posts)They will be so much better off when VP Harris ascends. And they are scared? I could ramble on but I will spare all. Were all on the same page.

(78,177 posts)And you hit the nail on the head -- they will benefit from VP Harris's election. They are just too aggressively ignorant to recognize that. But they are scared, because the world is changing in ways that challenge their previously held beliefs. They are uncomfortable with the thought of a woman in charge ...... especially a black woman!

(44,046 posts)They are fine with an incompetent, selfish jerk as long as that jerk is white and male. And, disrupting right wing nonsense, a jerk in very poor health.
I will say that if his first name is "jerk," his last name is "off."
In my opinion, he is scared of Jack Smith. And that has taken a toll on him.

(78,177 posts)that we are not dealing with criminal masterminds! Ha! And I know they can cause problems tampering with ballots, including setting them on fire. But to target my ballot suggests desperation on someone's part! Ha!
I had to "send" someone packing on the internet yesterday. I've known him for 40 years. Sad story, but I'll spare you, and just quote Malcolm X when Captain Sam was insulting and threatening him: "I pulled him out of a garbage pail."

(27,518 posts)in the political ads , some new from the Pisswigs failing campaign here in NC.
One in particular from the Make America Great Again pac . I dont usually listen to tv ads and this one jumped out in that the accusations leveled at the VP sound like absolute horse shit . Unbelievable histrionic scare level screed .
About halfway through the commercial I thought hes floundering and tuned out. I also thought good
I look forward to carrying out the trash next Tuesday.
✌🏻
Absolutely right!
In a situation I briefly noted in the above response to malaise, a guy I've know for 40 years exercised aggressive ignorance when we were texting yesterday. It was distinct to the way he has talked to me ever before. I don't care if he voted for the felon, and I ended it by saying that I have anticipated all racist white trash support the felon.
In fact, Tuesday night is when we put our garbage out for pickup on Wed morning! Seems quite fitting. Each piece going into the trash that night, I'll visual as pieces of trump and his minions being thrown away with the garbage!

Like, how weak can they be? Setting fires to damage/destroy ballots? But I am not surprised.

(40,421 posts)I don't dislike him as much as some around here do & by the end of the special I had a whole lot more respect for him & his impact on the party. Most of it was taped before Biden stepped aside but he has a few minutes of commentary about Harris. It felt they were added after the rest of the show had been wrapped up, & before her momentum had even really ignited. It was good, though. He's a solid dem.

(15,711 posts)After submitting my ballot I waited to see that it was accepted. I figure it eliminated two sets of hands touching my ballot if I did in person voting on Election Day. Another advantage I avoided MAGATs electioneering on the parking lot. I do not trust myself if I was approached walking in the door.

(78,177 posts)I'm encouraged by the numbers of people voting early!
I had an old associate call me today to say that there is far, far more young people voting than anyone anticipated. He said the numbers of female first-time voters will decide most of the contests. I couldn't be happier.

Still, faced with a MAGA hat wearing maggot shouting profanities at me,
I don't know how well I could control myself if my personal space were invaded....
Still, more likely the maggot threw the first punch, if confronted with facts or logic...

(78,177 posts)the 18-year old male with the machete was arrested for arrested for " aggravated assault." This charge isn't for an assault that involved any physical contact. It was for posing a threat to two women, ages 54 and 71. I feel safe in speculating that the women did not initiate the confrontation. But I can respect if others think a 71-year old woman might have tried to start a fight with an 18-year old guy with a machete, I suppose.

Their politics are going to be forever changed, they know it and are scared. They see their power that they have held for so long will be less. A new power is in the making that of woman and they don't want to share or loose any of that power that they have held.

(78,177 posts)I grew up with two brothers. Two sisters, as well. The oldest brother always selected women that he was much smarter than, and tried to control them. His being married four times suggests, at least to me, that he wasn't successful in that.
I was thinking about that when reading internet responses to Michelle Obama's recent speech. Those by maga cult members were saturated the desperation of sexism and racism when a brilliant black woman displays that level of intelligence. And that is so pathetic, because she is what I consider the ultimate in "attractive." And I don't mean in the sense that I dream of dating her ..... but in the higher sense of she represents the type of human being that represents my socio-political values.

(666 posts)I read many Democratic Party supporters sites and Republican supporter sites. The optimism I see expressed here is the polar opposite of what other Democratic pol sites are saying. The TOS here, Im sure, has something to do with that. It can be good and bad, but it does invite an intra-party viewpoint that is consistent in one direction.
There is one consistent: Republicans are claiming if the Democrats win its because they cheated and Democrats are claiming if the Republicans win its because they cheated.
