https://mastodon.sdf.org/@CaroltheCrone/113414629680090580George W. Bush won't endorse Harris. Here's why: Harlan Crow sits on the board of the George W. Bush Library in #TX Harlan Crow has controlled Clarence Thomas for decades. The corruption is very clear. #SCOTUS #Corruption

(20,142 posts)He's the ex-President. It shouldn't matter who controls dumbass Thomas. Bush could choose to do one right thing and be a good example. Follow your daughter, Dubya.

The Unmitigated Gall
(4,710 posts)But if ANY of the three might have been capable of making a stand I’d guess it’d be poppy. I’ve always felt shrub and jeb were utter spoiled-ass cowards. He got called “Smarter” because he could actually string sentences together, when he wasn’t throwing up in Japanese Prime minister’s laps.

Dick GD Cheney Endorsed Kamala! Little bush doesn't want to make any waves with his current masters. Even though TSF threatened to Kill Dick' s daughter, Liz.

(65,345 posts)I don’t believe shrub is capable of thinking for himself and may well have fell off the wagon or is suffering from dementia after years of being an alcoholic.
His family is probably protecting him from embarrassing himself which is why he is rarely seen in public. They wouldn’t want to be accused of elder abuse. Remember, shrub is the same age as rump.

(5,254 posts)I think painting is about the last thing he can actually do... he's old enough for dementia to have taken hold, too. And they're sure keeping him away from microphones. Even when he shows up for state funerals they keep him away from reporters.

(2,028 posts)Bush knows he's not even popular among his own party anymore.
His endorsement brings nothing of value to the table. He's a failed president who left office with a 25% approval rating. Harris doesn't need that.
Now Laura? That would be a good one. I'd take Laura's endorsement over Bush's.

(76,503 posts)Idi is dead, and couldn't vote in the US. So Cheney holds those advantages, too. The problem is that some -- I'm not saying all -- independents find having Dick on stage is extremely offensive, to the extent it is a factor in how they will vote. I'd much rather that Harris-Walz had their votes.

Only long after he lied about not being in the CIA in his director hearings did we find out that we was a major CIA operative in the bay if pigs fiasco.
The old man tried to extort prosecutors to protect Agnew (listen to Bagman later episodes).
The old man covered up the money to uran that got him and Raygun elected and the hostages held for several extra months.

Metaphorical
(2,393 posts)He has struck me as amiable, but not really all that there, and that this has become only more pronounced with time. My suspicion has long been that in 2007-8, he fell off the wagon hard, which was one of the reasons that it was essentially Obama taking over to try to keep the markets from collapsing in the latter half of 2008, which probably won him the White House in October.
I don't think this is a case where he doesn't want to endorse Harris. Rather, it is Bush trying desperately not to get pulled back into politics.
I don't think that Bush was all that evil. I just don't think he had a very strong will, and was easily manipulated.

Think of that time he was talking about Putin or some other thing having done something horrible in Ukraine but he said Iraq by mistake but even he knew what he did could apply to what he did in Iraq. He knows he was a shitty president .
