I have spent time today reading about what happened to Nevaeh Crain in Texas. I am so fucking angry about the fact that this girl was allowed to die because of scumbags like Ken Paxton. She went to two hospitals, seen several doctors and was given no help - she was allowed to die.

Tears mixed with fury is fueling me now.
All of us must stand up for her and all the other women in our lives. These fucking bastards like tRump and Abbott and DeSantis, etc. need to be put out to pasture (preferably in prison) and we can start that process Tuesday.
Either we win or we die. That is the choice we have been given!

(16,550 posts)Its particularly galling to read that an intervention at the first hospital might have allowed BOTH mother and baby to survive. This case really illustrates how DUMB and AWFUL these laws are.
She was SIX MONTHS pregnant presumably 26-27 weeks but the first doctor at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas did not do what could have been done to give Nevaeh Crain close monitoring and continuous treatment that might have saved both her and the fetus. Even at 26 weeks, survival rates of preemies are 75%.
The doctor was so scared of jeopardizing himself or his hospital by a potential need for an abortion, they just sent her home. Its insane.
There was a chance Crain could have remained pregnant, they said. If she had needed an early delivery, the hospital was well-equipped to care for a baby on the edge of viability. In another scenario, if the infection had gone too far, ending the pregnancy might have been necessary to save Crain.
Thank you for being an ally and supporter of women.

(258 posts)Of course, after all I would not be here without my nurturing and loving mom. I also have a daughter, step-daughter, daughter in law, three granddaughters, a niece and I had a sister.
My two siblings and I were brought up in a single parent household by our mom, who sacrificed and worked hard to keep us afloat.
I cannot believe that these Neanderthals misogynistic men are pushing laws to put over half our population at risk like this. It truly is sickening.
The early voting numbers are clearly showing that my sisters are showing up in huge numbers to take down the king of Neanderthals - tRump and many other MAGA dirt balls.
I said to my wife when Dobbs came down that the right wing extremists who pushed for this would regret it and that it is never a good idea to piss off Mother Nature.
