They know voter turnout, precinct-by-precinct, and can extrapolate that and determine where it looks like things are going.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but these are knowledgeable campaign insiders that have done this for many elections and campaigns and they very much can extrapolate and infer actual results based on the data they have available to them.

Case in point, Vermont was called at 7pm and yet it has -- *goes to check* -- 2% of the vote being reported right now, almost half an hour after the call was made.

Have you actually watched our U.S. elections?
