In a revealing report by Brett Meiselas of the MeidasTouch Network, several Trump voters are now confronting unforeseen consequences of their support for Donald Trump. As Meiselas notes, panic, fear, and regret are spreading within the MAGA community as Trumps policies and rhetoric begin to ripple through their personal and work lives.
One of the most visible impacts of these choices is the strain on family relationships. A woman who voted for Trump, for example, shared that her decision has severed ties with her mother, grandmother, and sister, who are no longer willing to speak to her. This story echoes others shared online, like a man who found himself served with divorce papers shortly after the election due to his political choices. He posted online, expressing disbelief at how quickly his relationship unraveled, lamenting that his wife refused even to discuss the matter.
Another voter revealed that he was unprepared for the potential impact on his finances. In one case, a business owner described how his company would be affected by new tariffs on imported goods, leading to cutbacks and even the cancellation of holiday bonuses. This reality was mirrored by another Trump-supporting small business owner in construction who noted that his vendors were preparing for potential price hikes and layoffs.
The report highlights the clash between these voters choices and real-world consequences. For example, one Trump supporter expressed dismay upon discovering that his vote threatened his access to healthcare. As an unemployed person, he had supported Trump to kill Obamacare, only to realize after voting that the Affordable Care Act, which he relies on, is one and the same.

(16,825 posts)Brianna (and almost all shelf-ready) dressings need ingredients to make the oils and vinegar/water mix. I'm pretty sure they use xanthan gum. But all of these (guar gum, carrageenan, etc.) can do a bit of a job on our gastro-intestinal tract.
I believe crushed garlic and perhaps mustard can help with the emulsification without the artificial components.

our Sanity vs Trumpism situation to discussing how to reach a compromise in a discussion on the merits of slavery. Not just no but hell no.
Apropos of this very thing: the notion that we should reach a compromise on womens reproductive health. Not just no, but fuck no. OB/GYNs go to medical school for years out of their lives, and are in the business of treating a whole woman as their patient, not just the contents of her uterus. Politicians in red states have proven themselves incapable of decent medical care or even decent caring as a human being.

When does life begin? Reckoning with surprising answers in Scripture
Rev. Dr. Dan Brockway
July 19, 2022
...
Still others point to the drawing of first breath, the moment of birth, and a myriad of other options for when life begins. Personally, I found Roes focus on fetal viability to be a decent compromise. Once a developing fetus has a fighting chance of surviving outside the womb, elective termination of the pregnancy (outside of serious health complications) is more or less objectively immoral.
[review of various passages]
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from surveying the Bibles teaching around life and when it begins is that we need to exercise some humility. As Christians, we should strive to relate all of our views and actions to Scripture. When the witness of Scripture is not fully clearand especially when it clashes with our assumptionsthat should call our own certainty into question and inspire humility.
Maybe we are not meant to fully understand when life begins. Maybe Godin Gods infinite wisdomdecided that such knowledge is beyond our paygrade. And maybe thats okay.

He can take his religious bullshit and EXTREMELY MISTAKEN BELIEF that he has something to bring to the table (or that he was invited to it in the first place) and SHOVE IT RIGHT UP INTO THE DARKEST REACHES OF HIS RELIGIOUS ASS.

(4,032 posts)and the "moral repugnance" of elective abortions after "viability." He has zero stake in any of that discussion. The ONLY conclusion he could morally offer would have been," we men need to trust women and stay out of the entire discussion." He has NO STANDING in this discussion otherwise, unless it was between him and his own partner. Where the fuck does he get off with opining about the appropriate time for a government or other citizens to have a stake in a woman's pregnancy. "How about never? Is never okay with you?" (This is a pop culture quote, not aimed at you pat_k.)
Roe was a barely acceptable disaster. What voters really want is for politicians to get the fuck out of the examination table stirrups. Forever. Completely.
pat_k
(10,877 posts)I guess I've just always seen roe as a compromise. When the poster talked about "no compromise" it just triggered my thought that roe was the damn compromise -- a compromise we did a decent job of working with, and around, for half-a-century.
I want that old compromise back.
And, FWIW, that article has prompted shifts in a couple Christians I know who were slipping into the insane "my way or the highway" Christian Nationalist model of control. Both have come back to what I think they always believed -- that our government must not impose law that reflects beliefs that are not shared. And if you ever do happen to be confronted by someone slipping into Christian Nationalism, I find it to be helpful to remind the person that the opposite of faith isn't doubt -- doubt is a normal part of faith. The opposite of faith is control. When we start deciding it is up to us exert control over the lives of others, we have clearly lost all faith.

TY for quoting Rev. Dr. Dan Brockways discussion of the (Christian) Bible on the issue of abortion. His counsel of humility makes me wish hed been on the SCOTUS instead of Opus Dei fanatics like Alito.
* I specify the Christian Bible, because this is where weve gotten into so much trouble in this country. Back when Randall Terry was rampaging around with his No Place To Hide campaign, my late mother in law, an elderly Jewish lady from Vienna, let me know she thought he and his whole outfit were nuts for essentially telling women to just shut up and die. She said that was entirely contrary to the faith shed been raised in. I had already been pro-choice for decades, but it was then that I started researching a multitude of religions attitudes toward abortion, and lo and behold, American Evangelicals do not even begin to speak for the rest of the religious believers in the US, much less the rest of the world.

(2,412 posts)I remember not long after the passage of the ACA, one of the networks (it might have been MSNBC) did a man-on-the-street interview segment about the ACA. On at least one occasion, the interviewer asked a rather leading question by using the term "Obamacare". When they got a negative reaction to the leading question, the interviewer then stated (correctly) that "Obamacare" and the ACA were the same thing. The result was pretty funny, as the people being interviewed had to suddenly confront their racism ( e.g. the name "Obama" ) as well as their brainwashing by Fox News.

I call bullcrap. You either care or you don't. They don't. The only problem I see is it'll take generations after I'm dead and buried before America can return to the "Great Experiment" once again, and even worse, everyone else in the country has to suffer for these idiots "oopsies." Just once, when called on their "oops" I wish some reporter would ask them how many people they think will DIE because of their bad choice. And then present them with true hypothetical numbers for an at least 4-year term. Then again, they didn't care enough to not vote trump, so they probably wouldn't care about that now. It's just sometimes telling someone the choice you made will kill "x" number of people does have an effect (but maybe only on those of us who are about others in the first place.)

(7 posts)I started some direct local action this morning.
The Resistance starts NOW!
Elections have consequences
economic consequences. We went out for brunch at one of our favorite restaurants this morning. I walked up to the managers desk and said, I want a booth for two
and I dont want a server who voted for Trump. She stared at me for a few seconds, smiled, and said, Okay! We had a delicious brunch with a cheerful server.
We can do this! We are customers and can decide where we spend our money. There are some categories of services that many communities have several options for us as customers. These include:
Restaurants: Tell the hostess or manager that you want a server who did not vote for Trump. If that person says something to the effect We dont talk politics, so I dont know. Wait until you are seated and ask the server if they voted for Trump. If the answer is Yes or there is hemming and hawing around, go back to the manager and say, I want a server who did not vote for Trump or I am leaving.
Hair Stylists/Barbers: Ask the direct question of the manager or hair stylist. If the salon cannot provide you with a stylist who did not vote for Trump, tell the manager that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dental hygienist: When you call to make an appointment, say you want a hygienist who did not vote for Trump. If you get any hassle, say that you are taking your business elsewhere.
Dentists: In my shopping community, there are six dental practices within walking distance of each other. I am under contract with my current dentist for an expensive Invisalign process, so I am stuck with that. However, I will ask the Invisalign Tech if she voted for Trump and when I need my teeth cleaned, I will ask for a nonTrumpster hygienist. If they dont have one, I will go to one of the other practices to get my teeth cleaned. I have been thinking about trying one of the other practices, so a cleaning is a good introduction to a new dentist.
When you opt to not do business somewhere, always explain to the manager why you are taking your business elsewhere.
