And they know he's dumber than 9 roosters.
He's not on the same page as the few R senators more interested their power than lobbyist money. They would rather someone smart and venal, not greedy and dumb.

And of course we dutifully follow the script.

Even if these people get through, it’s all just for show, they’re idiots and misfits. The people to worry about are the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society people behind the scenes who will be pulling the strings. These people really know what they’re doing, they’re the real danger. Not an imbecile like Matt Gaetz.

He wouldn't need to do this unless he knew that some of his nominees will likely be too toxic for even some Republicans. Gaetz is a good example of one who has a good chance of having enough opposition from Republicans to not make it through a confirmation vote. It's a little tiring reading all of these "of course, no Republican will vote against any nominee" posts. Do these people not pay attention? Republicans already voted against Trump's pick for senate majority leader. Most nominees will get confirmed easily. But he can't help himself and will continue to choose some of the worst cabinet nominees in the history of our country. A few of the worst of the worst may have some trouble.

threat there, if trump wants them they'll be approved. Weren't there several senators that voted against impeachment due to death threats? If they had any courage at all we wouldn't be in this mess right now

Trump demands Senate allow him to circumvent hearings to appoint cabinet - The Guardian Trump urges support from Rick Scott, John Thune and John Cornyn for ‘recess appointments’ while US Senate is paused

Donald Trump has demanded that the three frontrunners to lead the Senate allow him to appoint officials to his new administration without confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill, as a future Republican government began to take shape the week after his election victory.

In a demonstration of his political muscle, [he] urged support for “recess appointments”, which allow... appointments while the Senate is temporarily paused, and can be used to circumvent the confirmation process....

It... signaled Trump’s determination to press ahead with his agenda without being encumbered by congressional oversight, which is mandated by the US constitution.

Any senator who impedes Trump's cabinet appointments is putting themselves and their families on a very special list. All will be approved, likely by wide margins.

It's a loyalty test. If Gaetz gets through, he knows the Senate will follow his agenda and he has an AG that will do whatever he wants.

If he fails to get through, it makes it look like Senate Republicans are doing their job and he'll know who to target in future legislative battles. And they will just approve the next loyalist he nominates.
