Thread starts with the one below, and there are 18 tweets, but the numbering is screwed up - and on Twitter you can't correct that sort of error. Tweet /1 is followed by /3, then you'll see /13 twice and after that the numbering is correct for a few tweets, and then the last two tweets are both /17. Ignore the mistakes in the numbering, unless you're directing attention to a specific tweet. The information on Hegseth here is important.

DU displaying the tweet drains bandwidth from Musk. The Threadreader link sidesteps Twitter altogether for those interested.
highplainsdem should be thanked for bringing this information here without others having to visit Twitter.

Bluesky is showing a lot more promise and I'm sometimes reading there, too, but many of the accounts I find interesting aren't on Bluesky at all, or rarely post there.

(7,944 posts)Some are hedging their bets, others are offski altogether. But the vast bulk of the accounts that mainly interest me are still there, like the ones related to Ukraine, and since I'm in the UK, I value accounts that keep me up-to-date with events and thoughts in Scotland, and so far there doesn't seem to be a critical mass of them that have moved elsewhere. There's also a world outside the US, which is still well represented on Twitter despite everything. The sheer scale of Twitter compared to the competition is something people seem to have trouble getting their heads around when getting excited about numbers on Bluesky etc.
As I've mentioned before, ad boredom, I use Twitter in a different way to most, and don't believe I shore up Musk in any meaningful way. I have to keep up with world events for work, as well as personal interest, so I need event and news aggregators. DU serves that function to an extent, but it is an exclusive site, so it's not enough on its own.
