Once again, red states voted against their self-interest last week 👇
States that went to Trump stand to lose much more from his plan to abolish the Department of Education, as they receive more federal funds than blue states despite contributing fewer tax dollars.

(165 posts)Good! Hope the schools close and they give every kid home school workbooks and all you jackass MAGA parents have to quit work to watch/teach your kids .Or Not! Let them grow-up dumb! They can find a job at the pig farm or become an unpaid servant for the QOP elite.

(981 posts)wouldn't cut out that funding. It would either be migrated to another agency to administer or converted to block grants given directly to the states.
That's in the unlikely event that it even gets shut down.
Most republican congressmen will understand that this high point isn't going to last very long. Given history, 2026 will be a tough year for R's in the midterms. R's majority will be something like 4 or 5 votes in the House, which is too narrow to get anything done. Too many R's in vulnerable seats that aren't going to want to have to run against shutting down ED.
Overselling how bad things are going to be, just makes it easy for republicans to paint democrats as crying wolf.

(32 posts)I agree that those states will still receive the public funds, which will be given to private schoolls, primarily religious schools with no public oversight or accountability. Their financial aim is to privatize everything, to transfer public money into private hands. Their education aim is theocracy.
I am not so optimistic about the DOE. Or that if and when it is demolished, those red state voters will change how they vote in any way.
Lastly the idea that we can control what Republicans will say about us by stifling legitimate concerns regarding the dissolution of democracy as we knew it is self-defeating. What they say about others is what they want to say to create their narrative, and is not based on the actual words or actions of others, eg, Haitians eating pets in Springfield.

(981 posts)Living in one of those red states, there are not many private schools to funnel money to.
Besides that, it still doesn't change the legislation funding things like CARES and how that money can be spent.

(11,814 posts)The Nazis destroyed all German schoolbooks and wrote their own to ensure that children were brainwashed with Nazi ideology. Republicans are doing the same in red states by banning thousands of books and going to propaganda creators like PraegarU or Hillsdale College for curriculum materials that are religiously biased and historically incorrect.

(981 posts)ED has little to no power to do anything about that.
And the hyperbole of comparing everything to Nazi Germany hasn't worked for us so far, not sure why that would change.

(19,178 posts)Thing is, the vast majority of magats don't have the ready cash to send their spawn to private schools. Or the time since both parents work. Sad for the kids but the parents can go fuck themselves.
