Gillibrand makes her pitch for DSCC chair

https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/politics/2024/11/14/after-dems-pickups-in-ny--gillibrand-makes-her-pitch-for-dscc-chair

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is making her pitch to oversee the Senate Democrats’ campaign arm — and is citing her party’s successes last week in New York to help make her case.

The Path to the Majority

Gillibrand admits her party faces a complicated road to the Senate majority in the near future.

Between the 2026 and 2028 elections, there are only a handful of potential pickup opportunities for Democrats, and they are in states such as North Carolina and Wisconsin that lean Republican or are true battlegrounds.

All the while, the party will also have to defend incumbents in states including Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Still, Gillibrand remains optimistic another Democratic majority is in reach, saying, “I think it'll take at least two cycles, but I'm willing to do the work.”

If Gillibrand gets the job and helps secure a new Democratic majority, it comes with an added benefit for New York: potentially returning Sen. Chuck Schumer to the role of Majority Leader.

Remember when Al Franken resigned from the senate? Gillibrand was the first of the dems to go after him for what turned out to be nothing (especially by today's standards). She did this for power. She can try to say that she was just trying to make sure that dems were pure....but this is bullshit. She wants power, and at any cost. I hope she is seen for what she is.

First, Franken was an ok Senator but nothing special. I doubt anyone here could name his top 5 accomplishments as a Senator without going to Google. Plus there’s nothing wrong with his replacement Tina Smith. It’s not like democrats lost a senate seat because of it.

Second, it has been well documented that the effort to oust Franken was lead by Schumer, not Gillibrand. Yet it’s the woman, not the man who is demonized for it.

Third, Gillibrand was one of 39 Senators who called on Franken to resign. Seems unfair to blame her and not the others. While she did make the first Facebook post calling for Franken’s resignation, it was about 5 minutes before others followed. That’s part of a coordinated effort. Not the action of one person.

Fourth, Gillibrand wasn’t even the first Senator to go on TV calling for Franken to resign. That was several hours before anyone else. Guess who that was?

And Harris got Franken’s seat on the high profile judiciary committee, not Gillibrand. Should Harris be demonized too?

Finally, you claim that Gillibrand did it for power. Is there any actual evidence is there that shows that. Also, has she tried to take down any other Senator in the 7 years since Franken resigned? And what power did she gain by Franken resigning? Seems the Senator who benefited most was Harris.

After 7 years there periodic threads laminating a rich white male TV celebrity losing a job and demonizing a woman for should be left to the republicans.

with Jeff Sessions. Big deal. What did he do other than that? Are you saying that other democrats on the judiciary are substandard? Which ones?

And I never claimed that Tina Smith was a great Senator. Just that she was a fine replacement. Is there some problem with Smith’s performance?

She made a lot of people angry for the ferocity she went after Sen Franken during #metoo. Some felt it was unfair, given the "crime" he was accused of.

when he showed up at a phone-banking session for Mondale, who stepped in at the last minute and lost to that snake Norm Coleman. Franken was the real deal, and it was such excellent karma that he beat Coleman for that seat in 2008. I will never forgive Gillibrand for kneecapping him the way she did without even giving him the opportunity to defend himself. We still have excellent senators, haven't had a Republican since, but damn, I hated losing Franken.

is still a battleground state. I think this last election showed how delusional that assumption is.

I want to believe that North Carolina might be in play. I think its demographics are slowly changing, and two years of the God Emperor’s reign might change a few minds. (Of course I thought that Ted Cruz was a goner here in Texas, so what do I know?). Assuming that there are still free and fair elections in 2026 and 2028, might the Good Guys have a chance?

Cooper won 2 elections for governor when the state went red for president. He would have a decent chance to give us a blue senator for only the second time this century.

But yeah, I would never make a major bet on NC going blue in any particular election. We need a few more transplanted Yankees and a few more Dixiecrats need to die.

Say absolutely not. She barely registers a pulse in the state. She never comes to the suburban districts in the NYC metro.
I handed her office the softest of all softballs imaginable-a proclamation for a 101 year old WW II Vet, who was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French government. I'm friends with his daughter.
Schumer hand delivered a proc, Governor Hochul had a representative. His congresswoman, Grace Meng attended the ceremony.
Gillibrand? Crickets.
He subsequently passed away. But they couldn't even manage recognizing him.
I voted for her of course, but she is really useless.

Is she talking about her own re-election in a safe, deep blue state, where her re-election was just about guaranteed, and using that as some example of her own political savvy about the rest of the country? Has she apologized to Al Franken, yet?

Even though she won her Senate seat again, here in NY she ran on being a centrist who listens to “both sides” equally, essentially distancing herself from the Democratic Party of which she belongs. Enough of that. We need a fighter for working people who takes pride in being a Democrat and not afraid of telling the truth and not afraid of giving hell to the Republican Party and the oligarchs in the way FDR did. We need to kick ass and take names and not be afraid of how they will react. She is definitely not that person. When will we learn we need a working class populist, not a weak kneed centrist?
