I'm 57 years on disability due to a horrible accident and I'm also a type 1 diabetic. I also depend on Medicaid for my medication and insulin, which if I had to pay for would cost close to $10k a month. I barely make ends meet now. I have no doubt Trump is going to eliminate both SSDI and Medicaid and there is no way I can work. As we all know, when dictatorships happen the most vulnerable are at the ones to suffer the most. I'm actually ok with death, my 2 year old Australian Shephard though is by my side 24/7, I fear for him the most.

It was many added ingredients that are not necessary. Hell want to make health his priority and make only getting foods without preservatives available. Thats about the only change I see coming.

(312 posts)Do you not remember Trump throwing a party at the WH when the repeal of the ACA was passed in the House and he thought he had the votes in the Senate? Do you not know he attacked SSDI his first term and Biden immediately repealed it? Do you think the same guardrails will be in place this time? If I hear another Dem say we survived his first term with minimal damage so we'll be fine I'm going to barf, this is going to be nothing like his first term.

Not all of us made it through his last 4 years.
From March 1, 2020, through the end of 2020, there were 522,368 excess deaths in the United States, from Covid, or 22.9% more deaths than would have been expected in that time period.
Those people didn't make it, because of his bungling!
Just imagine if he does do everything he wants, it's possible that number will double or even triple before the possible end of his next term in office!

(3,213 posts)Project 2025 will repeal the Inflation Reduction Acts drug price negotiation program in Medicare. This would allow drug companies to charge higher prices for drugs, which would make it more expensive for people to buy them. (See page 465 of Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise - a.k.a. Project 2025)
It would eliminate food stamps for people who do not have a job or are not looking for a job. So people who are out of work and do not have enough money to buy food will not be able to get help from the government. [page 299]
And it would make it harder for people to get affordable housing. Which means that people who are struggling to afford a place to live will have fewer options and may end up homeless. [page 503]

Trump and the Republicans are very likely to go after Medicaid, which is for low-income people.
I had a friend who was dying of cancer. Her last years were filled with fear that Trump and the Republican Congress would repeal the ACA. John McCain's thumbs down veto was the only reason they didn't. They have more power now and McCain is gone.
We don't know what they'll do but they will definitely go after poor people first. If that's not you, please show compassion.

(6,675 posts)I still do some related work and follow it and Medicare closely. My point is that Ive heard talks of Medicaids demise ever since the 1970s.
Truth of matter is that 67 Million are on Medicare, 20 Million ACA, and 50 Million or so on Medicaid, including half of the children in this country. Doctors and hospitals wont get paid, drug companies, etc. While perverse, the fact a lot of people profit off those plans, means its relatively safe.
Im as confident as I can be there is no way all Republicans will vote against that number of people. And, private insurance companies profit off everyone of those millions, so theyll be lobbying and looking for allies.
The fear that POS trump is instilling in people, including a bunch of fools who voted for him, is criminal. But I dont believe he can do what we fear. Of course, I didnt think he could win in 2016.
Still believe you are relatively safe. Take care.

(312 posts)But regardless, my thoughts on this are Republicans have been trying to kill these programs since their inception (including Social Security), they think they are money sucking programs, and with the exception of SS they basically are, but obviously there are some like me that would not survive without them. But that's irrelevant to them, they did not care whatsoever when 600,000 died under Trump and if truth be known they would rather people like me be dead. So if they don't care about 600,000 deaths, why would 6 million deaths be any different? Yes, maybe things won't turn out for the worse, but I personally see Trump and company doing everything they can to kill these programs, and they are in a very good position to now do it. I hope I'm wrong but from where I'm at things are not looking very good.

I feel very bad for people like the OP.
The truth is we dont know yet and there is a difference between being informed versus perpetually alarmed (which is what the trolling of the libs agenda on display from the Trump team seems to be trying to accomplish).
They want the left to be in a state of fear and disarray. That people are shit scared all the time.
It is alarming but that is all the more reason to keep ones head when one can. I was initially dismayed but now I am trying to keep my head.
Same with Social Security. I've hear it's on Death's Door since the early 1980s. Yet here we are, it's still just fine, but the Doomsayers preaching of it's soon to be demise. It's a Third Rail. People talk loudly about it, but no ones touching it.

(5,515 posts)Sending you and your dog a big hug 🤗 Type 1 here myself. You can legally order insulin from Canada in bulk with an rx which will be much cheaper, even for the non covered insulins that medicare did not reduce the price on. A type 1 friend was paying $70 a vial for one of her insulins, fast acting, on medicare. I looked it up at a Canadian Pharmacy and found she could get 4-5 vials for less than that. I just ordered inhalers for one of my cats, it was way less than the price of one inhaler with a big initial sale at the Canadian mail order for a years worth for him.

You need to designate a pet guardian, the same as for children, if you know of someone, or some local rescue, who would take him in care. There are even documents that one can download, or fill out online. I have such a guardianship set up for my little rescue with a very good friend. She is even one of my ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts on my cell phone.

(4,332 posts)If it comes to the worst, I have the way picked out for myself. My cats (and dog) have a home with someone who will be here to love them, and I'm leaving him everything I own. I only fear leaving my DH. His marbles are going a lot faster than mine, and I basically caretake him. Grandson said if anything ever happened to me, he'd do it. Knowing my kidcats are going to be well taken care of was the last of my "oh, shit" tough it out thoughts. I was able to relax a little once that was taken care of.
I'm not in any hurry, but if they should kill Medicare and SS or slash either, then there may be nothing to do but check out. With autoimmune diseases, I'm not likely to make it living under a bridge.

(312 posts)But what you left out from your link is this:
People who have both Medicare and full Medicaid coverage are dually eligible. Medicare pays first when youre a dual eligible and you get Medicare-covered services. Medicaid pays last, after Medicare and any other health insurance you have.
If you're dually eligible, Medicare covers your prescription drugs. Youll automatically be enrolled in a Medicare drug plan that will cover your drug costs instead of Medicaid. Medicaid may still cover some drugs that Medicare doesnt cover.
So yea, being on Medicaid makes you eligible for that. You don't think I know how this works? Medicaid pays for the prescription drug plan through Medicare (part D). Those drug plan also come with high deductibles and co-pays. Medicaid picks up that slack. Medicaid also picks up the 20% slack of hospital and doctor visits that Medicare does not cover.
