We need to build alliances with voters who regret their votes. We need them to weather the coming storm.
Upon edit- I think reaching out is not the correct way to define this. Im done with the assholery, too, yet believe that opportunities will arise to strengthen the ranks of those who will defend democracy.

(5,515 posts)I am not reaching out to anyone, I am done. As far as I am concerned the US flag is now a fascist flag sadly, maybe that will change again in time. I hope so.

(57,542 posts)There is nothing we can say or do that will convince them.
And we should not help them weather the storm.
They need a steep learning curve to whack them upside the head.

(5,911 posts)These are people who voted based on mis/disinformation and are finding out now they have been lied to. If we shun them, they will either withdraw completely or be drawn deeper into the disinformation bubble, because people hate feeling they've been fooled. As much as I want to say to them: "I told you so", I have to agree with you. We need them.

(22,521 posts)The Democrats need to HAMMER that, relentlessly, for the next 4 years.
Americans don't give a shit about anything other than their own personal finances. At least not the ones that are open to swinging either way (or not showing up at all)

(209 posts)We're all going to be hit hard, and so it's an incredible opportunity to find common ground and resurface our persuasive conversation skills. Finding common ground comes first.
For decades, cohesion amongst the working class (which broadly speaking includes everyone except the wealthy) has eroded. So even in progressive neighborhoods, people believe that each family/individual is responsible for their own well-being, rather than knowing that well-being on all levels depends on community connections and solidarity.
With the coming upheaval, people won't know what to do. So let us find ways to demonstrate that community matters, that standing up for each other and helping one another is the key.
Building solidarity isn't easy, because most of us haven't had it for at least a couple generations. So my intention is to start with the low-hanging fruit and with "easy wins". I am starting with a neighborhood card-playing group, then to snow shoveling, and on from there. I also run a Little Free Pantry - a sturdy plastic bin with free food and personal supplies for anyone in need.
We're all going to be screwed, so we have that in common. We've all been lied to, so we have that in common. We all want respect, love, and safety, so we have that in common. The list goes on, and so we can see that it's possible to imagine finding common ground with folks that we have dismissed as [your adjectives of choice].
Thoughts?

(1,944 posts)Just this morning a co-worker who had been showing positive signs threw in the towel and went full maga again. The reason: another maga was within earshot. The second maga commented that 'Harris' wasn't ready, then the two of them took off with it. Screw them. Any further reaching out will be to laugh at the fools. They don't want alliances - they want to feel superior - they want to sound ignorant.

(1,327 posts)and witness the ever-rising price of eggs and a bag of Doritos....
That will be beyond reason and argument...
When they have to choose between a six-pack of beer,
and the necessary Doritos (so to speak),
eventually it will break through to their weak minds
that things were better under President Biden and the Democrats...
