About that bluesky thing

Dave Troy :toad:
@davetroy@toad.social

1/There is nothing more embarrassing than watching hordes of liberals willingly herd themselves into a pen funded by Russian capital. Blue sky’s principal funder Blockchain Capital LLC is run in part by Kirill Dorofeev, who also works for VK, Russia’s state social network.

10. That is a young Kyle MacLachlan.

That’s from his Twin Peaks period. We peakers would recognize those drapes anywhere. There are 9 Kirill Dorofeevs on LinkedIn and only one uses this MacLachlan image and when I checked minutes ago his bio said: Senior Product Analyst – Google Greater Linköping Metropolitan Area.

I’d like more information.

if anything he can add to support his contention that Blockchain Capital LLC is managed by this guy. Maybe someone is purposefully hiding their info now that it has been shared around. I do not know.

6. Bluesky Social is owned by Bluesky Social, PBC

It's a for-profit, public benefit corporation. More from Wikipedia:

On July 5, 2023, Bluesky Social announced it had raised $8 million in a seed funding round. The seed round was led by Neo, a firm with partners like Code.org co-founder Ali Partovi and former Twitter PM Suzanne Xie, and included other investors such as Joe Beda (co-creator of Kubernetes), Bob Young of Red Hat, Amjad Masad of Replit, Amir Shevat, Heather Meeker, Jeromy Johnson, and Automattic. Bluesky Social plans to use the funds to grow its team, manage operations, pay for infrastructure costs, and build out the AT Protocol technology that it runs on.

Prior to the seed round, Bluesky Social's website described the company as a public benefit LLC owned by Graber and other Bluesky Social employees. Post-seed round, the company describes itself as a public-benefit C corporation. The company has not publicly disclosed its charter. On May 4, 2024, Jack Dorsey, Bluesky Social funder and initiator, announced on X that he was no longer on Bluesky Social's board, and Bluesky Social confirmed his departure without disclosing the reasons.

13. Very Interesting.

I was wondering who was behind BlueSky. So, maybe people are jumping out of the frying pan, only to get barbequed.

I always wonder who owns social media venues. It always seems to be some unsavory sort of character, doesn't it?

14. At this point it just looks like smart Russian

Money jumping in on a new investment round. The point is that these large tech organizations are just not reliable as far as any kind of mission statements. People backing them want a return on their investment.

Like Curaleaf. 152 dispensaries, owned by a Russian oligarch.

Riddle me this. Why is pot more expensive now that it's legal?

Its because Big Pot wrote the legislation, created barriers to entry, agreed to extreme taxation and they all conspire to maintain certain price points.

18. From what I gather, Bluesky has investors

and some of those investors are Russian? I don't care. I like Bluesky and plan to stick around as long as they're not openly supporting white supremacy and fascism like the alternative.
