Opening the door to potentially constructive conversations or merely kissing the ring of the man who called new media the enemy from within?
This mornings announcement by Morning Joes Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that they met with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday in an attempt to restart communications with the president-elect after seven years of bitter feuding and silence drew some heated and, not surprisingly, differing opinions on todays The View.
While cohosts Sara Haines and Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin praised the Morning Joe détente as a welcome first step, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro two of the fiercer Trump critics on the ABC daytime talker had some harsher words.
The bottom line, said Hostin, is that America needs a free press that is willing to speak truth to power right now more than ever. I think we have to be very clear on it when we think about the president-elect and cover the president elect and I dont think you need to sit down for 90 minutes at Mar-a-Lago and kiss his ring to be able to speak truth and be able to cover a story.
Hostin conceded that Scarborough and Brzezinski are not journalists in the true sense but rather opinion journalists, but added, You have to remember that Trump is the guy who ushered in the era of fake news, hes the guy who ushered in alternative facts, he is the guy who attacked three black female journalists, hes the guy who revoked Jim Acostas press credentials for asking a question I dont think he can be trusted in the way that other presidents could be trusted. This is an aberration.

(57,471 posts)I'm glad I didn't. WTF? They went to MAL to kiss trump's ring? Didn't he make some horrid remarks before about Mika?
Now they're kissing up to him?
After the election I thought Joe Scar seemed elated at the results. Also tried to blame Black men, who actally voted at the same rate as in 2020, when he should've laid the blame on working class whites, the majority of white women, although a slim one, and Latino men.
I see I'm going to have to stop watching that show now that I've seen their true colors.

Whoopi won't hold back too much, but I know she can't say absolutely everything she thinks. None of them can. But at least they aren't doing the Mika-Joe capitulation.

(57,471 posts)Trekking to MAL to kiss up seems to be an obvious ploy for access. What? they want him calling to thier show regularly like he didn't in 2016, which helped him get elected.
The man is explicit in his white nationalism and their trip to MAL seems to be an act of fawning sycophancy.
I'm especially disappointed in Mika as woman lowering herself to gush over the bastard who braggs about snatching away women's abortion rights..
