Many states aren't really red or blue, they're a mixed bag. There's no state or region of the country where there's unanimous agreement that they're all Republican or all Democratic.

The Democrats in Alabama are just as important as the ones in Massachusetts. There are just fewer of them. Likewise, Republicans in Massachusetts are just as bad as the ones in Alabama; they're just outnumbered.

Like everyone else, I have no idea how this will work out. I just know a lot of people are going to suffer until we discover the end game.

People want to reduce life to such reductive patterns. It is not true of course that there are no patterns or that data doesn’t tell you stuff.

Sure, but most people who live like that will lead significantly shorter and unhealthier lives than those who do take care of their health.

But it is similarly reductive to attach salience to a few broad patterns here and there and to eschew more complete models that are rigorous and tested.

But these ideas about the blue-red divorce are as common with the jerks of Si Valley as they are on more legitimately frustrated parts of the left. The former arguments make me wary. The latter are frustration I understand.

To give examples of how ungrateful they are, when Texas had that big freeze in 2021, guess who was president? That's right, Biden was! When Hurricane Ian in 2022 and Hurricane Helene hit earlier this year, both really deadly hurricanes, who was president? Yep Biden. How about the deadly tornado in December 2021 that hit Kentucky? I mean, I could list several more. But last I checked, did Biden/Harris step up in the face in these disasters? I'm pretty sure they did. A friend of mine in California, a state who they much malign, even went on a two-week trip to North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This really shows how ungrateful they are. If it were me, I would have said, "All right, you are on your own, don't come crying to us when things get bad you ungrateful fools."
