Putin has authorised himself to use nuclear weapons.

Putin Lowers Threshold for Using Nuclear Weapons in Updated Doctrine, Sparking Escalation Concerns

President Vladimir Putin approved changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine Tuesday, expanding conditions under which nuclear weapons could be used, including in cases of attacks by non-nuclear states supported by nuclear powers.

The updates follow reports that U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized Kyiv to use long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russia, a move the Kremlin warned could lead to “a significant new round of escalation.”

The revised doctrine states that nuclear strikes could be justified by “aggression against the Russian Federation … by any non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear state.”

It also identifies threats such as “the deployment by a potential adversary of missile defense systems, medium- and short-range ballistic missiles, precision non-nuclear and hypersonic weapons, strike drones and directed energy weapons” as grounds for potential nuclear retaliation.

Inside the nuclear war leaflet given to Sweden families as WW3 fears grow

Instructions on how to stockpile food and even seek shelter during a nuclear attack are included in the pamphlet given to millions of residents in Sweden as fears grow of World War Three

Photographs lay bare the stark instructions given to millions of residents across Sweden on how to protect themselves in the event of a nuclear attack.

The booklet "If Crisis or War Comes", sent out by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), contains information about how to prepare for emergencies such as war, natural disasters, cyber attacks and terrorism.

Its new introduction states: "An insecure world requires preparedness. The military threat to Sweden has increased and we must prepare for the worst - an armed attack."

Sweden has amended the ddocument, first issued in 2018, as tensions between Moscow and the West escalated to new heights after Joe Biden gave Kyiv the green light to blast targets deep inside Russia with US-supplied long-range missiles. Donald Trump's son slammed the decision as making sure "they get WWIII going before my father has a chance to create peace".

They have a lot of the crap from the decommissioning of USSR's intercontinental arsenal, so I doubt fissionables are a problem. They also have a lot of the engineers who designed USSR's nukes and delivery systems. I have seen estimates that they could be a nuclear power within a month or two if they were suitably motivated. What has held them back is undoubtably that a nuclear arsenal isn't a winning system, it's a deterrence system, which depends on an enemy willing to be deterred. It would also not look good on the world stage if they whipped out a nuke first. But if Russia bombs them -- well, if I lived in Moscow that would be a good opportunity to sample the countryside air.

These threats aren't new, but what Putin deems as aggression from the US is.

Putin will ramp up tensions. After Trump is you inaugurated, he will “call” a summit with Putin. He’ll offer Putin all the currently occupied territories and withdraw support from Ukraine.

MAGAts will hail him as an”peacemaker.”

It’s a show.

Hopefully someone takes him out soon. It's clear his foray into Ukraine was a colossal mistake. He's overstayed his welcome by decades.

Just sit back and let the fallout from their own bombs blow right back on them. The prevailing winds blow eastward, and they're directly to the east. They'll just irradiate their own selves.

Maybe looking for an excuse to take out Putin. That would be an interesting start to Trump's second term...welcoming a new Russian leader.
