Merrick Garland urges prosecutors to protect DOJ's mission in first comments since Trump picked Matt Gaetz

to succeed him.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, nearing the end of his tenure leading the Justice Department, told career prosecutors Monday that they are the “backbone” of the Justice Department and urged them to continue to “uphold the rule of law.”

In his first public comments since President-elect Donald Trump selected former Rep. Matt Gaetz as his pick to run the Justice Department, Garland told prosecutors at the Southern District of New York to continue to protect the department’s “mission.”

As much as I loathe Gorsuch, I now believe Garland would probably have been almost as bad, and we'd be stuck with him forever. Now at least maybe he'll slink away and we never have to talk about him again.

What a joke of an anchor around our necks this mealymouthed Hyacinth Bucket has been.

He has been quite effective in completely laying waste to my last dregs of faith and hope in what is clearly nothing but an Injustice system.

He was an SC pick who excited no one, but was supposed to be an olive branch to Republicans post-Scalia. And how did that work out? Not only did we get stiffed, Garland as a moderate older white guy was of no political value in the 2016 election. And Garland becomes Gorsuch.

Then comes Joe Biden to the White House in the aftermath of a failed coup by Donald Trump with visions of bipartisan comity dancing in his head. Who better to reassure moderate Republicans (between both Houses you could count them on one hand) than Merrick Garland? Or whatever his reasoning was. Together they would go out of their way not to get in the way of the restoration of Trump, not until it was too late. And Trump becomes President.

It’s the end of an era. Hopefully.

All of the abuse that critics of Garland have taken from fellow Democrats...

A successful DOJ is one that stems the growing lawlessness. That is the only meaningful criteria.

A successful administration that runs on stopping the insurrectionists and Nazis is one that stops the insurrectionists and Nazis. That is the only meaningful criteria.

A successful campaign is the one that wins. That is the only meaningful criteria.

We can support Democrats, we can vote Democratic, we can fight for Democrats, we can defend Democrats. I have done all of that for decades. But damn, at some point the proof is in the pudding.

than enforcing the law equally. It's sickening and very upsetting. If he was upholding the law, both gaetz and trump would be in prison right now.
