What if you decided to vote but found out that your polling place is almost a half-mile and back from the bus stop?

AND you would have to take some hours off to catch the rush-hour service to that stop (and back)??

How can we get those people to spend the money to go to early balloting centers for the county?

Those are excuses, nor reasons for not voting. I'm not even talking about individuals voting. I'm talking about convincing people to vote. This year, I found four people who said they weren't going to bother. I managed to talk them into going ahead and voting on election day. They did, too. I drove one to the polling place. The others found their way there. Two of them registered to vote at the polling place, which we can do in Minnesota on election day. That is the simplest, most basic form of GOTV. Anyone can do that, just by talking to people they know and asking them if they're planning to vote. If not, then convince them that it's important to do so.

I'm talking about GOTV efforts, the results of which can lead to more people voting. That is the goal of GOTV. In most jurisdictions there are also people available to drive voters to their polling places. A GOTV effort can also inform them about that. GOTV works, but you do have to do it for it to work.

I'm not sure where your excuse comes from. I wasn't talking about your decision to vote at all.

My answer for all things having to do with election is simple: GOTV!

Apparently GOTV is not popular on DU. I write about it before every election. My posts sink like stones. Yet, it is the one proven strategy for winning elections.

Personally, I make it a goal to convince at least two non-voters to vote. If everyone did that, many of our problems would be solved.

For years they've run with little or no opposition.
(I need to start coming out for primary elections,
I only ever did that once.)
For years almost every race on my ballot has been a Democrat running unopposed.
And they've been increasingly acting like elitist Republicans

... or maybe it's just that they can't vote for any woman of any color.
