Seriously! Why doesn't somebody do something?

What do I want them to do? I don’t know. I don’t hold an office, don’t have any power, and don’t have access to classified information, etc.

But I am literally watching my country be destroyed without anyone in an office, who has any power, and who has access to classified information doing anything.

What gives? I don’t want Putin to be in control.

I think everything is being quietly investigated behind the scene. Kamala is quiet, Joe is making a speech in the Amazon rain forest. I think recounts and audits are being done, which isn't unusual after an election. But I'll bet those are forensic auditors and there are specialists in election security are present too. Once they have irrefutable evidence, they'll go to court.

One of the known weaknesses of democracy ...
The democratic process can render bad result (as well as the good) And, yes - if enough of our neighbors (the voters) are gullible enough (or mean spirited enough) to vote poorly. Then, in fact, we DO deserve this!

“You didn’t read the post”????

I wrote the post. I agree with your assessment to a degree. Democracy should be about the majority. But ours hasn’t been many times over the last 20 years. Elections should be about who is President; they weren’t meant to be part of installing a want to be dictator. These are waters that have not been navigated before here in this country.

Thus rendering statements like, "We don't deserve this" or "Why doesn't somebody .." - fairly meaningless. We DID do something ... We elected a totally unfit caricature to be the most powerful man on the planet. Twice ! So, in every sense that can possibly matter - We deserve it ! I know it is unpalatable and in fact gut wrenching ... But that is where we are ! And cries that 'somebody' should 'do something' ... Are not going to come to our rescue or save us. Is what it is ...

EVERYONE (including this poster) knows all about the system backwards and forwards. It is the SAME system that we have operated under since it was instituted in 1787. And incidentally the times when the college has usurped the result of the popular vote (insofar as it was known at the time. and of course included little caveats such as land ownership, white skin tone, and testicles during a good portion thereof) still continued to be relatively few - despite the recent hue and cry. (something like 4 times? at least of half of those in the 19th century. and a couple in which Congress did more in the way of disenfranchising the vote than the actual electoral college.)

If the democracy we in fact have isn't suitable to your needs today - then by all means go out and get yourself a better one! And of course - good luck with that! In the meantime, time and efforts would be better spent trying to devise ways to win with the system currently in place - surprisingly (shockingly) something quite similar to what both the Harris and Trump campaigns attempted to do in this past election.

One succeeded. One failed.

Tue Nov 19, 2024, 11:52 PM

The media has to report the truth. The media has been spinning their lies for the filthy-rich for centuries. But they have just recently been fully monopolized. We've had spates of monopolized mass media but it only recently has been so compromised by money from Nazis and foreign agents.

But if our educational system was better, our citizens would be able to see through the media spin. But more and more there are book burnings, religious intrusions, history hidden by propaganda, political rewriting of inconvenient facts, no civic instruction and parents keeping reality hidden from their children through home schooling.

Maybe a one sided corporate media that looks to deceive instead of to tell the truth and a bad education could be overcome if the work place was unionized and promoted worker organizations. But we don't have that either.

Democracy lost out to the oligarchy because a lot of people don't understand how it works.

The fact that the Democrats have made absolutely no effort to look into verifying the vote count tells me even they don't understand democracy.

It's a big country, and in DC there are a lot of moving parts, so it's better not to frustrate yourself, just be patient and aware that they can't speak to the public while they do their jobs. We're not in direct touch with investigative journalists on DU, and if it seems that journalists don't know yet, and they're watching more closely with more govt contacts than you, then you'll have to give up on the idea that nothing's happening until they tell us that.

Nor does anyone who didn’t vote for him. I have to the question the motivation of posters who say that.

It’s not just about the voters. The whole system is faulty and it has obviously failed. The leaders, all of them, are supposed to be protecting us against this type of threat and instead you have a corrupt party who is enabling a murderous fascist to take over the country and destroy it.

Every single thing that could’ve been done to stop him from ever running again, since there are no standards for who can run for an office in this country, was clearly not done, and that is part of the problem. A big part of it in my opinion. You cannot rely on voters to save a democracy when things get this crazy especially when they are one, not very intelligent and two, fascistic and crazy. Or all three for some.

Capitulating to R fascism over many years, has also led to this in my opinion.

We don’t know what they may be doing behind-the-scenes but I’m not holding my breath that there’s going to be anything major done sadly. It is pretty shocking but these people are already protected by the fact that they are all quite wealthy. They can ride out the storm…eventually though if there is a real collapse of the society, they will be affected too. They may become victims of prosecution by the psycho also.

the years 1933 and just after. How the propaganda we have seen for years about how the average German citizens went along and supported what was happening was a falsehood. Not unlike the US now and the split we have some did and a huge number did not. Ones who could get out did. But the ability to do so easily faded quickly. Within another span of months after the invasions began it was now difficult across most of Europe. Names were on lists.

The GQP for years have been building databases with names and addresses of people who signed petitions for referendums, candidates, recalls, etc. I remember when the Scott Walker recall was done in Wisconsin. I remember my Mom calling me scared to high heaven because she had received a phone call from somebody who wouldn't identify themselves and they accused her of writing in a phony address on the recall petition and they were making threats. I had to convince my elderly mother that it was just a crank. It did help finally convince her to have her number go unlisted.

which they think will be fine because Biden is President.

A couple seem to have the idea that some bloodless coup can happen and by some mysterious mechanisms everything peacefully returns to pretty much normal after we have a special election the law doesn't allow for and that we could win the contest after flipping the table.

There is no non table flipping path so if that is the demand then make it honestly and make it considering what that actually means, not just on some super surface level way.

You sure we can win a hot war when we couldn't manage an election?

what they are demanding below the surface at least a millimeter or two.

Squeamishness aside, the Commander in Chief advantage for a Democrat likely takes a precipitous hit by flat out initiating the hostilities in response to losing an election, too many conservatives and too many that could at least reasonably consider Biden's orders to be illegitimate even if not ideological or right wing.

The argument is especially tough with a popular vote win in addition to the Electoral College.

These are not small potatoes to be considered hastily.
There would be no going back for real and folks are counting some very dubious eggs as being chickens and not honestly considering that the gender balance and graying are real issues in a hot war scenario.

I wrote on my calendar November 5th the day democracy died- the full truth is it was already dying for quite some time for the past eight years at least in a severe way. And starting with when you pardoned a president who committed crimes which endangered the nation, and allowed the Supreme Court to anoint a president who wasn’t elected.

There are other examples in history which others will bring up I am sure. I’m looking at more recent events.

Now we have a president elect, who attempted a coup and incited an insurrection, who murdered millions of Americans, and tortured the rest with psychopathy, who will be put in place no doubt to murder millions more Americans, possibly collapsing the economy. Who himself is a traitor and who is beholden to our enemies. With a corrupt Supreme Court, and a corrupt fascist party enabling him.

The naïveté even on DU as to Trump and his power grab is unbelieveable.

In two years, it won’t matter.

They say about 30% of voters are cultists so that means 40% of his voters are possibly persuadable.

MAGA cult are also members to the Magic R. The Magic R gave the remaining 40% the courage to vote for the R even if they personally didn't like Trump. The R has unbelievable power.

IDK if that helps. It helps me to know I'm not alone in the way I feel.

I can't believe we're going to hand one of the best social experiments in human history over to someone who we know is going to destroy it & our reason is that we can't do anything undemocratic to save democracy. WTF? I hold out a very small glimmer of hope that the military won't go for a CIC who is talking about court martialing leaders before he's even in office. Otherwise, America's in for some really hard times & we may not come back. I know a lot of people think there are still plenty of guardrails in place but I'm not one of them.

Sorry for the downhead post.

famous three line strategy out,
Nobody is above the law.
We will go where the evidence leads us.
We will be working from the bottom up.
and then goes dark for 23-months.
IMO. Very few at the top ever seemed truly pissed off over the coup attempt, more of a ooh-hum, hopes this goes away on it's own attitude.
You can't convince me that Biden and Garland threw the full might and weight of US law down on the orange one and his henchmen until they exhausted every signal gray area of the law. I would bet that there are whistleblowers of our government/intelligence in prison now on sketchy charges that the pesky appeals court can't touch. Because of the full might and weight of US law was brought down on them. If there's will, there's a way.

(snip) The Biden Placeholder Presidency was designed to exist between two terms of Trump, Mafia Grover Cleveland style. The threat of Trump returning to office to complete his autocratic agenda is severe. But that he is able to do it – that the US is the only country in history to allow a coup to go unpunished and a seditionist to run for president again – is due to Garland, the DOJ, and their accomplices in Congress.

Quick justice. No other nation state would allow this to happen. It was a revolt, a revolution, with elements of the French Revolution now that the prisoners will go free. Democrats do not know, learn, or live their Machiavell. You gonna have power, you gotta wield power.

Every day it's nonstop horrible news about what unqualified, evil nut job he's going to appoint to a vital role in our government, all the horrible things he wants to do to take away our rights and make life harder for most Americans, and how he plans to bypass any kind of restraints, including making recess appointments to make sure the worst of the worst creeps are put into place per Putin's plan to destroy our country. I feel a sense of dread, panic, and despair that won't go away. I don't understand how Biden, Harris, and most of the democratic politicians can just go about their daily business pretending this is just another normal transition. It's crazy beyond belief.

But I still believe there is a war against the left and many won’t take the chance of going that far.
Maybe someone like the UAW president who spoke against trump?
Maybe he should invite anyone to join the UAW as an “associate member”?
