My home server is AOL, they have news (sort of) stories running all day. The top one currently is "What's next for Kamala Harris?" The comments section was the most outrageous I've seen all fall. The bots and trolls were out in full force along with, I'm sure, idiot real people. What I didn't get was the level of anger and hatred towards Kamala. They truly would lynch her if they could get hold of her. I would understand this if she had won the election (sort of), but not after she lost. What are they so afraid of? Buyers' remorse already? I mostly skimmed the posts, but it was the worst that I've seen on AOL and I truly don't get it.

(6,402 posts)It feels like they are compelled to attack her for no reason than she survived the election even if she didn't win it.

(79,813 posts)The Dems leaders know this election was rigged.
They have not figured out yet all the moving parts.
But they still know a lot.
Just like Trump has to go after the Iowa statistician pollster.
She has numbers and data.

(16,196 posts)Its preemptive hatred because powerful DEMOCRAT *shudder* WOMEN and POC are their worst nightmare.
Why? Because they know people will actually LIKE them and they thrive on hate and divisiveness.

Big difference, hate is often not fear, which is more chilling.

(6,402 posts)I have to give up thinking that logical and reasoning will give me the answers I need. Maybe some but not all any more. Response to deep fear makes more sense. And THAT makes no sense.

(16,629 posts)She still has a long career ahead of her, said Democratic strategist Kate Maeder. Shes young for politics in this country, and I think that folks are really excited to see what she does next, because shes built such a powerful following around her, and I think that that will carry through after the election.
Harris is among a small handful of vice presidents in recent history who tried for the presidency and lost, and each took different paths in the aftermath, noted Joel Goldstein, a professor emeritus at Saint Louis Universitys law school and an expert on the vice presidency. Richard Nixon mounted an unsuccessful bid for California governor before his comeback White House win in 1968, and Hubert Humphrey returned to the Senate. Al Gore never ran for political office again, focusing on environmental activism and earning the Nobel Peace Prize.
So theres a lot of different options available to her, Goldstein said. I would think that if she wants to remain active in presidential politics, that thats certainly something thats open to her if thats the course she wanted.

(6,402 posts)I just scanned the article. This summer I started scanning through the comments section because it gave me a feel of where we were outside of the DU bubble. Now, I may be blind, and I understand about bots/trolls, but I was curious about my fellow citizens. The comments often varied from very supportive to negative. The comments following this article were way more negative, nasty, hateful than anything I read before the election. There is so much that puzzles me about what has happened and is happening. I will never understand, however, hatred for fellow Americans, especially ones who have served this country either in the military or public sector.

(278 posts)You can go to any social media site and there are postings after postings viciously negative about Harris (and also Walz). On YouTube new attack videos show up daily . I've seen the level of hate also and I don't get why it continues--I know there are Russian bots but that doesn't explain all of it. Clearly some Maga feel the need to continue the hate for some reason.

(6,402 posts)And to know that it is apparently more wide spread is disturbing. Russian bots and trolls, but also the sheer number of people piling on. I really don't recognize my country and it makes me really sad.
