thus, consumers. AND this fact is supported by Corporations!!!!
Again, something that would have been more useful if they had reported it before the election.

"Both within Germany and abroad, there were initially few fears that Hitler could use his position to establish his later dictatorial single-party regime. Rather, the conservatives that helped to make him chancellor were convinced that they could control Hitler and "tame" the Nazi Party while setting the relevant impulses in the government themselves; foreign ambassadors played down worries by emphasizing that Hitler was "mediocre" if not a bad copy of Mussolini; even SPD politician Kurt Schumacher trivialized Hitler as a Dekorationsstück, piece of scenery, of the new government."

(14,386 posts)He is easily manipulated. Flattery will go a long ways with Trump. Or carrying out one of his draconian policies, or praising him on air. His extreme narcissism is a massive disability and national security threat.
Other fascists around him are much smarter than he is. They have the perfect vessel with which to carry out their darkest fantasies. All they have to do is worship him (while he's looking).
Now can they control his every stupid whim? No. But its clear that Trump can be convinced of anything. "There eating the cats and dogs!". If he's also convinced it will either get him A. More money, or B. More power (to get more money and to persecute his critics)
A classic case of making the idiot, who is the popular head bully, think he's in charge. Think its all his ideas. He's the best, with the biggest crowds, and the best looking, and the richest, and the most stable genius in the world.

So I have to assume they work for a contractor for the federal government where the employees are paid by the contracting company but those funds originate with the federal government. (In which case they aren't technically federal workers, but are effectively paid out of the federal budget). Even then, I would think most people who work for Federal government contractors know that and it should be obvious (unless they are really ignorant & oblivious to the real world) that cuts to the federal budget always have a chance to result in those contract arrangements being terminated which means the companies need to find other clients or else go out of business.

(2,634 posts)These are the kinds of people who voted for Trump. It is impossible to reach people who are so incredibly ignorant. There is absolutely nothing you could say to someone who works directly for the federal government but thinks they are not part of the federal workforce to make them understand reality. They live in an alternate reality where Trump is brilliant and never lies. The only thing that can pierce that is for true reality to smack them in the face, which is what it sounds like finally happened to some of them. Even then, I'd bet most of them do not regret their vote.

(10,959 posts)Of course U.S. Corps can support it, because they are going to pass on their loss to their customers.
Only problem with that thinking, though, is that the economy will eventually grind to a complete halt.
No one will be buying the Corp's products and the Corp will end up holding the bag.
At least that's the way I understand it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Metaphorical
(2,357 posts)A pure free market, combined with intelligent automation, will first reach a stage where fewer and fewer people are actually employed full time by companies and instead become independent consultants, then, will reach a stage where the consultants will no longer be called upon as corporations either become fully automated tools of the wealthy or cease to exist because no one is capable of buying their unnecessary products. AI doesn't really need to be all that powerful to do it - a great deal of existing "work" is already bullshit jobs.
My worry through much of this year was that the economy would improve enough to push Biden (then Harris) over the finish line before the economy went sideways. I'm in tech, haven't had a full time job in two years, primarily because the companies I've worked with have lost their funding as investors tried to claw back investments or were shafted by THEIR clients. Too many people with just enough wealth to leverage themselves out to 15-20x their actual net worth that could afford to do so when interest rates were essentially zero, but couldn't when interest rates began climbing to handle inflation. Right now the Ponzi game in tech (especially AI) is still holding, but you can tell that it's unravelling. The ONLY comfort to this is that it's going to land on Trump's watch, and that comfort is pretty cold.
All I used was common sense. But you went in depth and taught me much. How are you surviving without a full-time job? (You don't need to answer that). I had no idea the tech industry was unravelling as you describe. Good luck to you as we all descend into djt's "great America".

There is a clear example of it the last time the dipshit was president, where his tarriffs hit farmers so hard they had to ramp up subsidies exponentially to pay them, and even with a lot of them went out business.
But, I would bet good money 99% of them voted for him again this time.
Its just how the R party/conservative movement brainwashed 1/3 of the country prior to DT and he took the whip, and they both overwhelmed the middle 1/3 with so much bullshit they can't take up from down any more.

(2,634 posts)Could they have done a better job? Of course. But this is one issue where the mainstream media didn't just ignore it and did try to explain it to their audience at list a bit. Examples:

This is one area where the failure wasn't so much on the media as it was on the audience. RIght wing media, of course didn't report the truth about how tariffs work and the cult members automatically believed whatever Trump told them. But the non-cult members who voted for Trump anyway absolutely would have heard the truth about tariffs had they listened to the MSM. The problem is, they didn't listen. This one is on the stupidity and ignorance of the voters, not so much the media.

The standard definition of the phrase suggests that violence is an essential tactic, but that invariably disrupts the social and economic fabric, and is detrimental to the business interests whose funding is essential to the success of the endeavor. So, you boil the frog slowly, and when it realizes that it's in trouble, it's too late. Just ask that treacherous scumbag, Rupert Murdoch.
When the intended target is a nation of 300-odd million people, Many avenues of attack must occur simultaneously, albeit, slowly. Rome wasn't built in a day, and America won't be destroyed from the inside out in a day. Corrupting and hamstringing the educational system to mold willing drones Incapable of critical thinking builds a malleable base of public support for their own destruction.
The list is long, but y'all get the gist of it. It's been ongoing for decades, but the weasels have succeeded in taking over Toad Hall, and now they're going to trash it once and for all. They will burn it to the ground so they can rule over the ashes.

Here's the raw deal. Down and dirty.
The President. He can't lower the price of food or make more oil appear out of thin air. He can't give you a job unless he hires you himself or indirectly through his direct federal blalaklkfjajd nonsense... nonsense. And yes... an entirely new swarm of assholes are sweeping in to fuck things up and this time... they definitely don't trust those last set of assholes. So, we get to smell the same shit. Just different assholes.
Now can he fuck things up... sure. But temporarily as well... the reason he won the election is the people actually wanted him. That's how it works. I didn't and don't but that's the deal. Ethically unless he eats a babies head on tv, I don't see much stopping this and frankly, I don't think I want to as... I actually think that asshole blowhard is right.
I think Elon was right and this economy is in serious trouble. I think the majority of people have no earthly idea how money works. They put their trust in money like they put their trust in God, by watching successful people and trusting ... 'That's how it's done'. That's it That's your economic model. For real... I know you can't believe that but it's a horrible, horrible truth.
Most people don't know this but it was Sir Isaac Newton who put England on the Gold Standard. There is a reason why the greatest Physicist... and I mean absolutely no disrespect by calling him a Physicist, I apologize immensely Sir.... but yeah, why the Mint? Ever think about why someone like Newton chose to be the Master of Coin? No? Just staring blankly at the screen are you? Had no idea? Did ya?
Well, yeah... Newton... Mr. Fig himself was Master of Coin and Lord of Castle Le Rock. Why? And why did he do what he did? Hmm.... sorry... probably not relevant. Ancient history and as we know, history is unique each and every time. Look. We have TV's. We have limitless porn of every imagination. Who gives a shit what Newton and his clearly estranged butt-buddy Leibenz... Leibniz... shit... why is that so hard to remember.. I call him Mr. Binary. LOL
But one thing we need to recall.
Remember when the housing market collapsed? What did we do?
That's right, we scrimped and saved and paid... no?
No?
No.
We borrowed 2 Trillion dollars and gave it away to spend as fast as possible. Well no... George Bush Borrowed a Trillion and Obama walked in and doubled down. And they just gave it away... Here... take it! Why would Obama double down on insanity? Hmm.... Can't figure that one out.
Well... Let's think. Remember the Collapse of 2002 when our economy evapo... no? NO?
No?
How... oh that's right... we borrowed Trillions of dollars and attacked Iraq to get our chemical weapons back. Fuckers actually destroyed them.... can you believe it! Who gets rid of chemical weapons? I mean who? That's nuts? Well... they did... My bad. Still, economic ruin averted....
What economic ruin? Oh yeah... Enron Worldcom Tyco... on and on and on and well... too bad all the evidence to put all that corruption away just evaporated along with your concern about economic collapse. Why worry about money when you have Snipers killing everyone everywhere!!! YIKES....
You laughed at that hot ass Sarah Palin for building a bridge to nowhere! Why? Every bridge in Alaska is a bridge to nowhere! LOL. What the fuck do you spend billions of dollars on for no sudden reason! How on earth does that work?
So... Please... I do understand the gloom and doom but honestly... what is fucked up is Cheney was on our side. Cheney. On our side... I'm thinking it's time to just sit back and take my time and do the best I can with what I got. Oh and I spend time reading too... so I don't stress as much...
Just my thoughts...
Oh... the point. Who do I want to handle the collapse? Hmm... the best person to blame it on? Sounds like the perfect Cheney plot to me...
