This little allegory relates to the period before the election where Carmela is the confused and torn great American voting public who have the opportunity of disengaging from Trump once and for all . There are no prizes for guessing who resonates with Tony Soprano!
The therapist is the conscience of America obviously and repeatedly expressed, inter alia, by ethical elements in social media and the fourth estate who tells the stark truth, strips Carmella of her convenient little rationalizations, and points out the moral choice facing her.
As with Carmella there is a sort of Faustian bargain on offer to suggestible voters: 'I know he's a convicted felon, insurrectionist, etc etc. But so what if he reduces my grocery bill? He may calm down when in office. I may just have to hold my nose....'
Carmella did not listen. Neither did the great American voting public. And neither can say that they weren't told!

La Coliniere
(1,066 posts)She was one of my favorite characters on that series. Always cooking and acting like the proper suburban mother knowing full well how her bread was buttered. Edie Falco nailed that part too.
