With nominees like Kash Patel (FBI) and Matt Gaetz (now followed by Pam Bondi) why the hell should Joe Biden expect the US justice system under Trump to treat Hunter justly? Prosecutors already failed when they reacted to Republican pressure by cancelling Hunter's plea deal and subjecting him to a new trial.
And now Trump's rats nest of criminal justice nominees -- every one of them a Trump sycophant -- is the changed circumstance that fully justifies Joe's change of heart.

(40,280 posts)After the enrollment they found out that Gaetz, Patel, hegseth, Vance and trump had been newly hired by the school as teachers. The parents instantly canceled their daughters enrollment and sent her to public school. FOR HER SAFETY.

(6,962 posts)He said he wouldnt pardon him.
He learned kash Patel will likely become a key player at DoJ. The same kash Patel whos had a raging hard on for hunter going on 4 years.
With that new knowledge, he reached a different conclusion.
New data = new decision.

(16,537 posts)A corrupted DOJ/FBI will not be deterred from ruining Hunter's (or anyone else's) life going forward just because of a pardon.
They can still enmesh that person in some investigation in a ruinous fashion (stress and other health detriments, loss of work opportunities, leaks and smears, inspiring public threats/harassment, legal fees) even if they cannot prosecute that person for some certain actions.
Even a broad pardon isn't a broad shield, if one supposes a corrupt and unprofessional DOJ (and absent one, a pardon isn't so justified).

Show up and answer any question not 100% correctly? Perjury and AG Bondi prosecutes.

(5,413 posts)The Republican House and Senate will subpoena him to hearings and ask him under oath about all the alleged business improprieties along with his escapades during his addiction in order to try and besmirch President Biden . He no longer has criminal liability so he cannot (legally) refuse to answer. If he refuses he will be held in contempt of congress and AG Bondi will prosecute. (since that 'crime' will be after the dates covered by the pardon).
If he does answer and he does not 100% tell the truth, AG Bondi will prosecute for lying to congress. (again, since that 'crime' will be after the dates covered by the pardon).
Any objection to a contempt of congress prosecution by Democrats will be blunted as President Biden's DOJ prosecuted Bannon for the same thing.
Hunter Biden and President Biden will not be able to get this behind them until the Republicans have got their pound of flesh, one way of the other.
