Musk didnt invent Trump, he bought him. - nazir
I didnt write this but it is so spot on.
And there is a federal law that government contractors cant do political donations, Muskrat donated $250 million to the orange Hitler 2.0. Why is he allowed to break laws?

If you want some granularity in that: risk taking, going against the grain, breaking rules, drive, grandiosity, good physics skills and poor people skills (lack of empathy). I read somewhere that the laws of physics constrain his engineering companies, whereas absolutely nothing constrains the "social" business, though the section 230 free ride may be grinding to a halt.

(3,018 posts)Unless it is a meeting where we get food for all. I literally cannot buy a soda for someone from a state or district education entity or my company and I would be in trouble.
Seriously, we get training every year on this and I am not in contract negotiations, I am responsible for producing documents, reports, and presentation as part of our statement of work and I know these rules.

(27,179 posts)The law has never really applied to people like Muskovite, and under Trump they're abandoning even the pretense that we're a nation of laws.

Given the contents of my 401K (or whatever it is), I would not be able to support my prefered candidates if it were otherwise.

10 million others of similar resources started with what he had and he still came in first if wealth is your metric.
I cant stand the guy and lost all respect for him way back when he called the key rescuer of the Thai boys soccer team a pedo because he didnt get the glory.
Nevertheless, he does have a genuine skill for turning companies into ultra successful projects. The inventors of Tesla probably would have gone bankrupt without his intervention. He is not the technical genius of SpaceX, but was still a key leader in making that happen. Im all for disparaging the guy for any number of reasons, but he does have the skill to make stuff happen. Many of the harebrained schemes he decided to embark in actually succeeded against seemingly insurmountable odds. Imagine the crazy ideas he had that he passed on. I dont think its just luck or the silver spoon in his mouth. We should be honest about that. Even though he is messing up twitter big time, it looks like he is getting what he wanted out of it. He has one loud ass personal megaphone he can use to his advantage. It is working.
I would say his competence is a reason to worry if he really wants to run the country using his toy tr*&p.

(316 posts)In the "new" America the very rich, the very powerful, or the very celebrated are allowed to commit crimes and be judged, possibly, later and then to shrug them off as inconsequential, unimportant or too far in the past.
This is so unlike the treatment of, for example, a Black person with a toy gun, no gun, or simply walking, driving or existing in the "wrong" place at the "wrong" time. This person can be judged, shot and dismissed in an instant with almost no consequence.
