Its hard to bring things down once theyre up
Speaking in front of a table of packaged foods, Trump used an August press conference to draw attention to food inflation during his campaign for president. Grocery prices have skyrocketed, he said.
When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one, Trump continued. We will drill, baby, drill, he said, referring to increasing domestic oil production. Thats going to bring down prices of everything.
(Economists generally prefer to see prices increase modestly across an economy rather than fall, a scenario known as deflation, because it can cause people to put off purchases. And often, when prices for goods fall significantly, its because more people are unemployed and the economy is in a downturn.)
Its hard to bring things down once theyre up, Trump said in his Time Magazine Person of the Year interview published Thursday, referring to grocery prices. You know, its very hard But I think that they will. I think that energy is going to bring them down.
I think a better supply chain is going to bring them down, he continued. You know, the supply chain is still broken.

You mean he cant just magically say, Abracadabra and lower prices just like that? Color me shocked.
If only there was someone to warn people he was a con man.
Oh, wait.
These people got played so badly.

They continue to support a political economy that automatically tends toward destruction because it requires infinite growth in order to not collapse. That prices will not drop because of anything ther imbecile does will become irrelevant in short order. The media is already making noise about how good the economy is. And they will believe it because they want to believe it. And they want to believe Dear Leader is the cause.
The theomythology of this country is incredibly strong.
Liberal In Texas
(16,218 posts)This is magnified by the right wing media structure that they've been putting together since the 80s. The lies are repeated over and over and pretty soon voters start believing we are in a recession and the price of eggs is the fault of Joe Biden. Traditional corporate media has been cowed into both-siderism afraid of being accused of the dreaded "Liberal Media" insult. This is exacerbated by media owners pulling the reins back on news departments so as not to jeopardize political favor or tax cuts.
Voters were told that the economy was the best in the world after the recovery from covid shut-downs and other good news and positive things were campaigned on. It's just that the RW noise drowned it out. It isn't a matter of listening to fly-over country, it's a matter of being able to get a message out that they will actually hear. And have it repeated over and over.

. . . to smash the china shop to pieces.
Few, I bet, honestly believed this con man/clown could deliver on promises like this.
What Trump COULD do is play havoc with the system.
This is important to note because voters lie about their reasons for pulling the lever for Mango Mussolini.
And if we (the left, collectively) are waiitng for these MAGA-ats to suddenly acknowledge they were conned, well . . . it's not a con if these voters lied about the reason they re-elected this maniac in the first place, is it?
This is ID-driven nihilism in action, and I doubt most rank-and-file Trumpists could even articulate this motivation/sentiment (assuming they are fully conscious of their own motivations here.)

with the article acting like Trump is adjusting some strategy to inflation and bringing prices down, rather than just flailing about, just short of suggesting that maybe injecting home disinfectants might help, and that his campaign
promises were just baseless pandering without any technical merit.
Wheres the news org that has a checklist of Trumps campaign promises, and is using it to track progress?
