I am just seething. I'm so angry I could scream!

The New York Post put out long, front page hit job on President Biden today. Yes, I know they are trash, but AOL is carrying it as news and the few comments I read made me even more angry.

Nope, I haven't a clue how to post a link to the story and quite bluntly I don't want to. I just skimmed it.

This man has given his all to this country and tried to do his very best and they attack him now, when he is on his way out.

Yes, I'm sure this is to deflect from the chaos in congress and the mess with king trump and president musk.

The republicans have absolutely no morals or ethics. This just makes me so mad and so sad. Nothing new, I know, but damn them!

That was preceded the day before by a NYT article with similar themes.

The source of this part of the story is Democratic Congressman Adam Smith who was Chairman of the Armed Services Committee at the time. His comments were on the record.

So people can believe it or not, but a Democratic Congressman going on the record as the source of the story is tough to paper over.

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/other/joe-biden-a-little-older-and-a-little-slower-in-final-days-as-president-new-york-times-report-finds/ar-AA1w7PBA

Joe Biden 'a little older and a little slower' in final days as President, New York Times report finds

“This is the twilight of Mr Biden’s presidency, the final days of the final chapter of an epic half-century political journey that has had more than its share of twists and turns. Time is catching up with Mr Biden,” they wrote.

Baker and Kanno-Youngs’ report continued, where they claimed the 82-year-old is looking “a little older and a little slower”.

“Aides say he remains plenty sharp in the Situation Room, calling world leaders to broker a cease-fire in Lebanon or deal with the chaos of Syria’s rebellion,” they wrote.

“But it is hard to imagine that he seriously thought he could do the world’s most stressful job for another four years.”

That doesn't come close to alleging the things in the WSJ & NY Post articles. In fact, I don't know anyone who would argue with the characterization here.

37. I just heard an interview with the WSJ reporter on NPR.
Fri Dec 20, 2024, 02:03 PM
Dec 2024

I was in and out of my car so did not hear the beginning, but the jist was that Biden was declining even when he was elected in 2020 and his loyal staff covered it up. I do not know who the reporter interviewed for the article, but her “news” was that even though Biden had been declining his staff was willing to help hide his decline so he could run again.

Of course, thus reporter works for the Murdoch/Fox conglomerate so I listened to the interview either some skepticism. That said, one of my major peeves with this reporter, and actually most reporters, is the lack of specificity in her reporting. She used only the word “decline” to talk about Biden. There’s a huge difference between physical decline and cognitive decline, but whether her sources in the WH were describing one r both forms was never clarified, so anyone listening was led to assume it was cognitive.

The only reason I found the WSJ article of note is that a Democratic Congressman was coming out as frankly as that. And the Chairman of the Armed Service committee to boot.

It just seemed kind of unusual to me to get that sort of on the record commentary from someone like that.

And it also feels kind of . . . late? Like, what's the point of hashing it out now?

If it were real it would have been on every MSM outlet/show a long, long time ago. Nor do I believe that the current democratic leaders, not to mention Jill Biden would have let this proceed. And yes, I know the history of Woodrow Wilson, but that was in a very different era.

But the bottom line is that is was a hit job designed, I suspect, to deflect from the fiasco in congress caused by musk and trump.

So, why did you ask that question? I'm just curious.

RECORD FIRSTS IN PRESIDENT BIDEN'S FIRST YEAR
President Biden and Vice President Harris delivered results for the American people in their first year in office. The President and Vice President made history growing our economy, addressing the climate crisis, and building a judiciary and government that represents America. Despite unprecedented challenges, 2021 was a year of record progress for working families.

Jobs: President Biden’s first year was the greatest year of job creation in American history, with more than 8 million jobs created.

Unemployment Rate: The unemployment rate dropped from 6.2% when Biden took office to 3.9%, the biggest single year drop in American history.

Unemployment Claims: The average number of Americans filing for unemployment has been near its lowest level since 1969. When the President took office, over 18 million were receiving unemployment benefits, today only 2 million are—also the biggest single year drop in history.

Economic Legislation Passed: Most significant by economic impact of any first-year president.

Economy growth is faster than China's for first time in 20 years - Strongest economic growth since 1984

Child Poverty: Experts estimate the lowest child poverty rate ever in 2021.

Expanded Access to Health Care: Nearly 5 million Americans have newly gained health insurance coverage.

Reduced Hunger: The number of households reporting that they sometimes or often did not have enough food to eat dropped by 32%.

Judges Confirmed: More judges confirmed to lower federal courts than any president since President Kennedy.

Judges That Reflect Our Nation: More Black women appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals than any president – even over 8 years – in history.

Cabinet: First majority non-white Cabinet in history, with most women in the Cabinet, including first woman Treasury Secretary, first LGBTQ+ and Native American Cabinet officials, and first woman Director of National Intelligence.

Climate Investments: Largest investments ever in the power grid, electric vehicle chargers, and climate resilience.

Clean Water: Largest investment and national, bipartisan plan to get safe and clean drinking water to all Americans.

Cleaner Cars: Strongest vehicle emissions standards ever to save drivers money at the pump and reduce pollution.

Wind: First-ever approvals of large-scale offshore wind projects.

My home page is AOL (yes it's still around). They are running the article as news, but the interesting thing to me is the comments. They claim there are 7.5 thousand comments since yesterday afternoon. I'm run through many of them because I was curious. So far I have found no pro-Biden comments. They are all anti-Biden, anti-Democrat Party, Anti-members of Biden's administration, anti-"liberal biased free press", and anyone else or anything else connected to the Democrats that they could defile. Some of the comments are quite involved about how bad the country has been since Joe Biden became president.
There have often been anti-democratic and anti-Biden "news" articles and they often have many comments, although I don't remember another one with that many comments. The other thing that's interesting is they are ALL negative regarding Biden etc. Before there has always been a fair number of people willing to speak up for the Democratic party and it's members. I couldn't find even one pro-Biden comment.

This was not a last minute campaign. This has obviously been in the works for sometime, apparently waiting for the perfect time to distract.

Maybe I'm making too much of this. But I've sort of found the whole thing at first maddening, but now curious and disturbing. I suspect we will see more of this type of attack in the future.
