Murphy: Why are Democrats acting as if DOGE is 'legitimate'?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/murphy-why-democrats-acting-doge-153239902.html

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) questioned why Democrats are acting as if Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) panel is “legitimate” during a podcast appearance.

“Having watched Trump during his first term, when nothing was real, right, when everything was a feint or a fake — it was never infrastructure week, right? He was never serious, after Parkland, about doing gun control. Why do we, all of a sudden, decide to take this government efficiency task force seriously?” Murphy said on a Thursday episode of The New Republic’s “The Daily Blast with Greg Sargent.”

“Like, why are we acting as if this is legitimate?” he added.

Trump said last month that Musk and Ramaswamy would serve as the heads of DOGE, which aims to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures” and restructure federal agencies.

is reasonable. This contrasts to the media and even some Democrats speaking of them heading DOGE, then calling it department of government efficiency. Presidents have tried to identify areas of inefficiency and redundancy before - notably Clinton had Gore lead such as effort. The big difference is Gore had served in both the House and Senate and had been serving as VP. He had the background to lead a team that could look at whether changes might make the government more efficient.

I like the point Murphy brings up that Trump's spoken goals are rarely his real goals. Two other points might be that neither "head" has any experience in government ... yet, before any study or even organizing a task force, they have declared they can achieve a likely unachievable goal - saving billions.

It would always be good that anytime the deficit is mentioned the fact that nearly a forth of the debt was accrued in the first Trump term AND his tax cuts are responsible for a portion of the deficit added to the debt in the Biden years. A budget is not impacted just by expenses, but by income (in the government's case that is mostly taxes.)

Media believin the lies?

Well, they're entirely about clicks and bucks. Truth and fact be damned. AI can do that, and I'm sorry to say, perhaps better.

Dems? They lack a superhero fighting leader. I'm tanned, rested and ready.

FDR conducted a war from wherlchair, but he had help.
