The Hill - Musk says he’ll fund ‘moderate’ Democratic primary challengers

by Miranda Nazzaro - 12/20/24 2:09 PM ET

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday claimed he will fund moderate primary challenges to incumbent Democrats in heavy-blue districts around the country.

“Oh … forgot to mention that I’m also going to be funding moderate candidates in heavily Democrat districts, so that the country can get rid of those who don’t represent them, like this jacka‑‑,” Musk wrote Thursday night on his social media platform X.

The ally of President-elect Trump made the comments in response to a clip of a floor speech from Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), the ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee, who slammed Musk’s threat to primary Republicans if they supported an earlier bipartisan spending proposal this week.

“Can you image what the next two years are going to be like if every time that Congress works its will and then there’s a tweet? Or from an individual who has no official portfolio, who threatens members on the Republican side with a primary and they succumb?” Neal said in a fiery floor speech Thursday night.

Musk, the co-leader of Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) with Vivek Ramaswamy, fired off dozens of posts Wednesday ripping apart a stopgap spending measure that would have funded the government through March 14 and averted a government shutdown.

Like it or not, Musk is a big part of what's happening IN politics right now, not only in the transition, but in the House of Representatives and their attempts at voting for a budget.

Your complaints are confusing to me given what a huge part of the story Elon Musk is right now.

Blue Dog types, who are centrist to conservative Democrats ideologically, and who are pre-disposed to corporate-friendly policies, at least some form of austerity in regards to an expansive social safety net, and also favouring more privatisation and de-regulation (even if not to a level that a Rethug or libertarian would push for, these types would still be far more likely to not resist those things compared to a progressive).

a similar 'progressive erasure as much as is possible, with them replaced by centrist and/or conservative Dems' initiative.

Also, that AIPAC funding was not just done only for taking out Dems who pushed back in ways that AIPAC detested in re the Israeli/Palestinian arena, it was also taken on from an ideological basis.

The RW billionaire funders of AIPAC hate the progressive ideology that seeks to put them under a legal, lawful regime of regulation and taxes that interrupts/impedes their rapacious profit-taking, and also forms a bulwark against their hatred of social democratic institutions like llarge parts of the New Deal and Great Society programmes, etc.
