He's right, of course, but Trump thinks that only Trump can lead the nation. So, there's a serious conflict of perception there.
Problem for Musk is that Trump got elected to be President. So, Trump can toss Musk into the garbage if he wants to.
Problem for Trump is that Musk is right. Trump is a dumbass.
So, we have a standoff working here. Which way will it go?

(102,472 posts)I can absolutely see this coming. As bad as Trump is, President Vance will be 100x worse, and he won't leave office. He's planning on staying for the long haul.

(84 posts)JD Vance is evil and smart (don't kid yourselves, dude is mentally sharp), but Trump is evil and stupid, and way more gullible and susceptible to flattery. Also, at least in the past, Vance had the presence of mind to say Trump was like Hitler (in a negative way). But perhaps more importantly, Vance entirely lacks charisma and has nowhere near the 'hold' on MAGA that Trump does. MAGA will be pissed if they see Vance stage a coup against their Orange Jesus. This could hobble his ability to get away with the kind of evil shit that the MAGAt's would have instinctively gone along with if Trump was behind it. And if Trump feels ousted against his will, you know he'll be talking smack about most things Vance tries to do, and the GOP flying monkeys in the Congress won't know WTF to do about any of it. We know Orangina is WAAAAY more about his ego than he is about any particular policy position. Bottom-line, a Vance coup might work out better for the country than four years of the pathological-narcissist-slipping-into-dementia in charge, if for no reason other than the disarray it would cause in MAGA-world.
OTOH, if Trump chooses to step down voluntarily, that could work out worse. I consider him being 25th'd as the better outcome for us out of the three possibilities (the third being he actually attempts presidenting for 4 years).

(1,135 posts)"I don't hate the man," Elon Musk tweeted in July 2022, "but it's time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset."

I'm guessing he still believes that.

(121,395 posts)but he clearly doesn't like all those memes about how Musk is the real president and he's just his loyal assistant. On the other hand, Trump is pleased that Musk has used some of his fortune to purchase the GOP House. But on the other other hand, it's Musk, not him, who owns the House. Of course Trump can 86 Musk right out of Mierda-Lardo for now, or the White House later, if Musk is still attached to his ass like a lamprey. (A parasite can't survive without its host, but it's become increasingly difficult to determine which of them is the host and which is the parasite, so maybe their relationship is more commensal, like the lichen, consisting of both algae and fungi.) Musk is getting what he wants, which is power and influence without the bother of having to be a politician, and Trump is getting what he wants, which is the benefit of Musk's money and the influence it buys. But Trump doesn't want to play second fiddle. He wants to be the concertmaster, or actually the conductor, while Musk sits in the back row playing second oboe, maybe the triangle. Lots of metaphors to be mixed here. I don't know what will happen but I'm going to stock up on popcorn.
