There is no fairly permanent "Democratic Policy Institute" like the GOP has with its Hoover Institute (which sucks)And no constant reminders of its fight for the people, nor takedown of RW lies.

In between elections, who shares the party's outstanding core values 24 by 7 by 365, like the RW hate machine does?
Just do it.
I just reposted what I think are Democratic Values, and I don't exactly have media clout.

DO IT.
Leadership changes constantly. It's happening right now
Our past presidents and leaders have not maintained a "permanent" presence guiding and coordinating the battle, no doubt because they don't want to seem "partisan" in primaries.
---
Is there a new Dr. Martin Luther King?
An American Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Desmond Tutu?
Howard Zinn, Benjamin Spock, Daniel Berrigan, and others outside the political races are gone.
These were all visionaries more than organizers. (it varies, of course)
The party of Putin has more or less permanent organizers and propagandists and a "rotating racist" as a candidate.
How convenient!
Who has the skill with people and organizing/managing?
We have several. Look at the enormous skills of the Clintons, Barack Obama and Joe Biden
"but the primaries".
We need a more or less "permanent" leadership not swayed nor blown up by primary battles.
Change all you want. There is no solid foundation to keep the pressure on, tell voters 24 by 7 by 365 what the core values of the party are, letting prospective candidates present their variations on that, and their unique personalities.
In-between elections, a seated leader can't do that foundation work on their own, and may get into primary battles on their own or for others.
And the party leaders "have to avoid picking sides" but also aren't the "MESSAGE MACHINE" that the other side has. Granted.

(3,449 posts)Democrats have done none of that. They need to create that as a big tent to cover and reach frequently the 70% of US voters who are liberal minded.
The DLC corporate right arm of the Dem party is about all the formal organizing they have and its the corporate billionaire arm, a sad representation for the majority working class D voters.
Progressivism is what invigorates the D base. Our beloved FDR was a progressive. His policies were progressive. This is what people want. Get back to it Democratic Party! Find the corporate left arm who support and encourage workers to flourish.
Stop leading us on like Lucy with her football, for this is why the D party truly is in disarray.

(20,679 posts)After any loss of an election, its reflection time and stepping back for a good look for the future. The Dem leadership is comprised of experience and knowledge that is valuable and, imo, needs to be shared with those who are younger..a mentor..and the experienced can learn from the younger generation, too. The teacher/student type thing where the teacher learns new skills and the student is being prepared for stepping into roles the teacher will soon leave. The teacher should not dismiss the student as too young or havent paid their dues. The student will have the lessons taught and bring new ideas and skills needed for leadership and an ever changing society. Teach the children well type of attitude and not just push them aside until theyre older..well be stuck in a time warp and lose again.
"Teach the children well type of attitude and not just push them aside until theyre older"
The flip side of this problem is our youngest Democrats want something so different they don't want to listen to our elder Democrats. There is a very real divergance going on we have to work through. (I don't have answers)

(20,679 posts)Not an elder statesman leaning on a podium reading a prepared statement. We need some fire in our delivery. TSF is out everyday with some crap..crazy or not, but hes sucking up the energy and has been for the last 10 years. Yes, its disinformation and at times shocking, but we gotta get ahead of him and the younger generation brings technology and terminology that can reach out to our future voters. Im knocking on 78 years old and so are most of our Dem leadership..Id love to see the results of what mentors can do for future generations in Congress and our country. If we dont change, well get left behind.

Remember the courageous actions of people in the past and even in recent times.
My argument is for thought leaders (not necessarily old ) to keep the pressure on.
An AOC or Reverend Warnock might be busy in primaries or daily skirmishes, but I can see them ADDING something special on top of a consistent and constant message of core values.
Examples I gave.
Can any dem argue either AGAINST them, or convey them all on their own? That's a load.
Democrats have compassion for others, and believe that:
When every person
a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
b. can make a good living,
c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
Government invests in its citizens.
Labor and innovation create wealth.
Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
Government is by the people and for the people.
The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
The repubs believe:
Freedom means no regulation. Nothing more.
Workers and voters are kept from uniting, chiefly by a divide and conquer strategy, i.e culture wars.
Welfare is for the rich.
GOVERNMENT CONTROLS EVERYONE'S LIFE.
Whatever Putin tells them to believe.🇷🇺
And here are the Key Issues as I see them.
Keep government from dictating what you read, your religion and your private life.
The working person deserves a break rather than welfare for the rich.
Americans believe in and defend the constitution because no American gains from harming another.
Protect and expand medicare and Social Security so that health care is denied nobody.
There is health, wealth and dignity for all when everyone pays their fair share.
We fight for individual rights where others would deny them.
America's needs are met by responsive, responsible government rather than bullshit culture wars.
BIDENOMICS is a revolution in economics that upends the disproven theory of "trickle down" that gave us "The one-percent economy". It makes the country stronger and more stable.
Those aren't going to change for a long time, but some individual frosting on that cake is welcome.
And Biden, the Clintons and Obamas can deliver some heat. They did so at the convention.
Younger people can add to the chorus.
A rousing chorus, not some solo performances,.

(4,043 posts)not so good at stating what they are for.
An analyst argued recently that the Dems are fundamentally "an opposition party" and I mostly disagree but it got me thinking about how often and how naturally we function that way. 'Opposed to Trump' has been the biggest message of the last 9 years but it will not be the message of 2028.
HRC was at her best when under attack and counter punching. KH does best when attacking but do we have candidates who are at their best when presenting positive visions for the future? and who can get people excited about policies rather than interpersonal battles?
Message Machine
MSNBC, The View, ABC and CNN are often cited as the message machine of the DNC / Dem beltway. They have a much bigger audience and presence than the Hoover Institute but in the aggregate they are a herd of cats.
I think the Dem party is can be seen as 3 or 4 distinct groups / levels.
1 - Casual voters who turn out every 2 or 4 years
2 - Hyperpartisans who are "news junkies" and engage with every issue, donate, volunteer and organize (sound familiar?), and
3 - Beltway DNC leadership
What could be improved is messaging between groups 1 and 3. The Dem party would do well to foster a new generation of surrogates since exit polling shows us losing support among younger people. TV no longer has the reach and influence it used to have so it is time to master the dynamics of social media. That will require a different style of engagement and thus a different set of surrogates such as people who came of age as influencers, podcasters and debaters.

(3,023 posts)Too many in congress represent privilege and protect the status quo economic models.
Too many lack the courage to lean way in on matters of human rights and environmental protection and truly sustainable global economic policies.
Unless power is ceded to more "radical" leaders, we will continue the current decline.
