Elon Musk changes his tune on H1-B visas as he tries to cool raging MAGA civil war over skilled immigrationhttps://nypost.com/2024/12/29/us-news/elon-musk-changes-his-tune-on-h1-b-visas-after-maga-backlash/
Just a day after vowing to “go to war on this issue” and telling detractors to “F— yourself,” Musk, the world’s richest man, acknowledged some of the criticisms of the program getting abused and argued that the US should make it more costly to hire foreigners.
“Easily fixed by raising the minimum salary significantly and adding a yearly cost for maintaining the H1B, making it materially more expensive to hire from overseas than domestically,” Musk wrote on X late Saturday in response to a thread claiming H1-B visas were being used to hire low-wage programmers and developers.

(959 posts)I've been a proponent for at least two decades about raising the cost of the H1-B visas to employers.
Back then, in the tech sector, I worked with a few such people at Nortel Networks. They were all very nice and smart, but did not have skills Americans didn't have.
"The H-1B visa program has been around for approximately 34 years. It was established by the Immigration Act of 1990, signed into law by President George H.W. Bush. However, the roots of the H-1B visa can be traced back to the H-1 visa category created by the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952"

In five days they may not even have a Speaker.
I'm just going to sit here and watch them self-destruct.

Musk is rich enough to not care what the base thinks. He speaks his mind, sometimes forgetting or disregarding how it conflicts with the official message or puts the team's hypocrisy on display.

trump is literally on video stating that any foreigner attending college in the US should get a green card. Have eLoon and vilevac voiced similar ideas?

(29,462 posts)So they still want to bring foreign tech workers AND they want to raise their minimum wage, which is already higher than the actual minimum wage? Yeah, that’s gonna go over like a ton of bricks.
How come their answer isn’t more rigorous training for US tech workers? These people are beyond ridiculous.
