The young group of conservative writers created in the 90s - Coulter, York, Goldberg, etc. - were basically required to at least mention it in a column if not writing a praising full article about it. This was the time of Lee Atwater where your worth as a political operative was tied to how far youd go. Pre-Rove who turned it more animalistic. When Will got established on TV he wanted to clear his history so the same writers wrote pieces saying none of it was true.

(863 posts)If you followed baseball at the time of Pete Rose and the all star when he ran over Fosse the game was played seriously.
At the time the all star game was very competitive as there was no inter league games. Players like Willie Mays would play most of the game. Rose only played hard and Fosse was blocking the plate. Will called it unnecessary and it was an exhibition. They players took the game seriously.
