My sister was on a flight with him. She said, "I don't agree with his politics but it was still a thrill to shake hands with a president."

(133 posts)I haven't watched TV in over a decade, and no corporate news media in about the same.
I am refreshing this site a lot tonight, though.

(36,466 posts)"The comments overwhelmingly criticize George Will's column for its timing and content, as it was published immediately after Jimmy Carter's death. Many commenters express admiration for Carter, highlighting his honesty, decency, and contributions to society, contrasting him with Ronald Reagan, who they view negatively. Reagan is criticized for policies that allegedly harmed the middle class and fostered inequality, with some commenters blaming him for setting the stage for future political issues, including the rise of Trump. The comments reflect a strong disapproval of Will's portrayal of Carter and Reagan."

(43,291 posts)We who voted for him as our first vote are helped by remembering.
I just ..... can't. Can't take it.
I did see hundreds of posts (with articles and old news clips and much much more) on BlueSky, and here.
I /was/ a daily Morning Joe viewer (mostly because I often wake up at 2, 3, 4am... and they are on early on the west coast. I usually stopped trying to go back to sleep at 3 and would turn to Morning Joe. Sometimes I would fall back asleep.
Now, I don't want to see their smarmy faces ever again. I don't want to see or hear about Trump (something that seems to be getting worse on BlueSky). I would love an app that would block his face/voice every time it showed up on my screen.
Even though I like Nichole Wallace, Rachel, and Lawrence, I just can't take it. All the same pundits and talking heads. No, I don't want to see any more of Michael Steele (as an example).
Definitely would be better off if I just turned on some music or something.
The MSM have failed the United States. They have normalized this insanity.
For instance, right now I'm reeling from something I just learned about Project 2025 and NOAA. Trump wants to put one of the owners (they are brothers) of Accuweather in charge of NOAA. Those guys want to privatize the weather data (that we paid for with our taxes and government satellites). This hits me particularly hard because I used to work for Accuweather in PA. And I never liked the management. They only hired white people (then again, it was in State College PA, very very white part of the country), but it really seemed odd to me to have over 800 employees and only one guy who was from India, and maybe 1 black person. It was gross. I was never so happy as when I came back to California where we have people of all races living together. I grew up in Hawaii before that and again, it was a melting pot of all kinds of interesting people.
I'm just so disgusted with everything right now. I don't see an end to it.
/rant off (sorry about that)

(25 posts)I broke my ban today and watched ABC - for the first time since the election.
I was glad I did, they gave a lengthy tribute at the start. When it was over I switched it off.
And now I'll continue not watching the news, probably for years.

He was the best of men, and I will always be proud that the first vote I cast at the age of 18 was for President Carter.

(1,232 posts)I don't need to see anything else, especially the MSM bobbleheads playing all sad and respectful to a man who was better than they could ever hope to be. Plus, I don't want to see anything about Trump to ruin what's already a hard day. Fuck that bastard. You know the news monkeys would find a way to make the Orangs Shit Stain relevant.
