Coming home in February.
I know that worry without reason is just bad for everybody, but I am concerned because Ive never lived in the United States without the protections of our allies, and I love him so much. I couldnt bear to lose him, truly.
Anyway, how safe do you suppose international air travel will be if you have any thoughts on this? Thanks very much, stay well.

(188 posts)My wife, now a naturalized citizen is traveling to SE Asia in Jan to bring our daughter, who is just receiving her visa, to the US. Their return flight is in Feb.
I'm very worried about what the idiot and his gang of idiots can do to prevent their arrival.
Wishing you the best.

(106,895 posts)and when Americans were (at best) tolerated and elements of our government and leadership absolutely detested (e.g., GWBush* after he lied to go into Iraq).
The obvious is important. Remove all tags and labels from bags and clothing that may identify one as American. Yes, that includes the Polo Ralph Lauren emblems and all the other... American branded luggage--remove the evidence. This might seem a minor issue, but I cannot tell you how important it is to avoid being targeted. For all my time in that part of the world, those locals I interacted with thought I was Canadian--largely because I interacted with them a great deal without aloofnesssomething they did not see from "typical" Americans. This is an aside from your issues, I'm sure, but it is a principle worth considering.
Returning to the US with Trump in full anti-immigrant bombastic stance could be tricky for those with visas or naturalized citizens. I can only assume that the best thing to do is to have all your papers in order, have the number for an immigration lawyer available if necessary, and try to come back when it is not "peak" crowds. Be ultra polite, regardless of how rude immigration officials might be...

(106,895 posts)agree with you. I'm not sure the OP meant to suggest fear of travel to other countries because of what is occurring there, but there are reasons for there to be anti-American sentiment as a result of Trump and his damned policies/big mouth as well as concern for many returning here and dealing with customs or immigration. Hell, I have some anti-American sentiment as well--unfortunately, that self-directs, given we all get to take the blame for MAGA.

(19,096 posts)There havent been many incidents at all. Hawaii people love going to Las Vegas to gamble for some reason I will never understand.
The house always wins, right? Except trumps casino somehow. More going on there I suppose.
I was worried about safety in the air but take your point. We have a lot of work to do here in both fronts for certain. Good luck to your daughter.
