When I told him Jimmy Carter died. He is a Jesuit high school graduate, and an avowed atheist who detests American foreign policy.
Compared with the rest he was a living Saint. By far the greatest President in our lifetime and quite possibly the best ever.
Food for thought. Damn Jimmy was a good man.

President Carter was a good man. With the exception of maybe Eisenhower, he was light years ahead of every republican president in my lifetime and he set standards for his successors.
His life post-presidency is a model of modesty and good works. Few come close to his beneficence.
The United States was blessed by his term in office.
Rest peacefully, sir.
I was too young in 76 but got to vote in 80. I was angry when Reagan won. I knew what was coming, and what we lost.

Voted for Jimmy the next time. Never regretted it!
"Good night, sweet prince. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
It was his re-election campaign. I have no regrets.

(10,144 posts)In 1976, I was 19. St. Ronnie should be burning in hell for what he did to Carter with the hostage crisis. The manipulation was so obvious even then but Reagan was a hero.

(1,356 posts)If it wasn't for the Iranian BS he would have been a (2) term-er.
If the hostage rescue mission had succeeded the U.S. would
be in a completely different situation right now. That failure
was not his fault.

(45 posts)I was just listening to NPR and they were saying he was the only white kid in his hometown. He was ambitious but pride was frowned upon as part of his religion. He figured if he could get in a position of power he would do the right thing. Anything good or positive in this world Republicans tear it down. Much like the solar panels on the White House. Republicans are evil.

We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation."

Carter was prescient about many important issues, but like Casandra, his prophecies were ignored

(9,372 posts)by a Trump**-like deity. Apollo had the hots for her, and gave her the gift of prophecy. When she turned him down for sex, he couldn't take away what he had given, so the next best revenge was to insure that no one would ever believe her. So that's what he did. Or so the story goes.
I'm not sure he needed to - humans are already pretty good at ignoring predictions they don't like.

(8,187 posts)He was foremost an intelligent, considerate human being.
He brought those to the job.
The inclination of some is to assume the title of POTUS magically endows the wearer of the crown with those virtues.
That is so wrong.
The job simply amplifies who you are to start with.
RIP Jimmy.
