From Face the Nation yesterday:
JAN CRAWFORD: Undercovered and underreported, that would be, to me, Joe Biden's obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate.
MAJOR GARRETT: At the presidential debate with Donald Trump.
JAN CRAWFORD: Unquestioned. And it's starting to emerge now that his advisers kind of managed his limitations, which has been reported in "The Wall Street Journal," for four years. And yet he insisted that he could still run for president. We should have much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years, which could have led to a primary for the Democrats.
It could have changed the scope of the entire election. Yet still, incredibly, we read in "The Washington Post" that his advisers are saying that he regrets that he dropped out of the race, that he thinks he could have beaten Trump. And I think that is either delusional or they're gaslighting the American people.

(942 posts)Biden was ill with a bad flu. That was the under reported story, you twit. He was ill, but went on that stage to debate someone whose cognitive decline is so obvious even a one year old can see it.
Its decline is the most under reported story, you moran!

remember when the NYTimes had 30 articles in one week about Biden's supposed decline? That doesn't sound "underreported" to me.

(91,778 posts)...every physical exam included a mental assessment which has never found any 'cognitive decline.'
This type of journalism demonstrates either a corrupt reporting process, or an ignorant one.

(2,849 posts)...the Wall Street Journal. There was a time, pre-Murdoch, when the WSJ kept a clear boundary between its newsgathering and editorial functions. They were always known for their insane op-eds, which in those days came from the furthest-right neocons they could find, but their business news reporting was beyond reproach. After Murdoch bought the paper, it appears to have become Fox-ified to the point where at least some of the news coverage has the same slant as the editorial page.
If any other reporter has confirmed the WSJ "senile Joe" story, I haven't seen it. I count on the "Breaking News" and "General DIscussion" sections at DU--which have the broadest selection of news sources anywhere--and as far as I know, there has been no other coverage of this story outside of "Murdoch world".

But his brain is fine. He knows how to govern; his moral core is intact.

(413 posts)By mentioning having a primary, I assume so. It would have been interesting to see how a primary would have turned out. The public as a whole was frustrated with the Biden administration's approach to inflation, while remaining popular with the majority of the Democratic base. Would there have been a candidate that broke through that would have beaten Trump? My guess is no given the reordering of the primaries would seemingly favored Harris with South Carolina first and her being VP, but it might have put her in a position to focus faster on how she would have differed from Biden. I think that her initial comment that she wouldn't have done anything different hurt her a lot in terms of being tied to Biden in the eyes of the public.

I say this from having the weird experience of watching the first debate on a monitor while I was at the gym. I only had the text on, not sound. If that was your only reference, Biden won the debate easily. I was dumbfounded by the reaction to the debate when I got home.
