Rilee Crouch, Lobo del Mar, and Trumpers

Thought I'd post a local story here, just for the halibut. This story has been roiling South Padre Island (SPI) in deep south Texas since this past July, when a 3-yr old girl (Rilee Crouch) and her mom (Liliana Maria Buntin Crouch) disappeared from SPI. The mother is a member of the Buntin family, who operate a bayside eatery, Lobo del Mar, on SPI. The Buntin family are strong Trump supporters. The Buntin family (many call it a cult) moved to SPI en masse in the fall of 2016. When I say en masse, I mean about 40 of them bought property and homes on the island. They could be characterized as gypsies. (In fact, almost all the women in the cult, er, family, learn how to belly-dance, even down to the very young female children. No doubt the scantily-clad belly-dancing is pleasing to the pedophiles in the crowd. I find it weird AF.)

The family has lived in Washington state, western coastal Mexico, and Hawaii over the last 25 years. They descend upon a place as a group and invariably leave, as a group, every 5-10 years. In the case of SPI, the family, which has a lot of craftsmen in it, renovated a closed-down bayside restaurant and renamed it "Lobo Del Mar." It quickly became a mecca for all things Trump, complete with cardboard cutouts of The Donald, flags, banners, and even a confederate flag they proudly display on the music stage they built.

Rilee and Iliana disappeared after Rilee's father, Dakota Crouch, returned the child to her mom (divorced and sharing custody). It was alleged that the Buntin family was indeed aware of where Rilee and her mom were, but they would provide no help to the authorities in trying to locate them. Turns out Liliana first fled to Mexico, then Guatemala, then tried to get into Turkey but were denied entry and for some as yet unclear reason, the two travelled to Panama, where they were apprehended. So Rilee is back home and Iliana is under a $100,000 bond for violations of custody, and there is a growing backlash against the Buntin family and Lobo del Mar.

The only way to deal with this kind of stuff (meaning the insular, tribal, cultish factor, not this particular incidence of parental kidnap) - is by cutting the head off the snake.

And presupposes that this kind of social behavior represents a real harm - that should be confronted and squelched, at the inevitable cost to individual freedoms.

....Rupert, or Rup, for short (pronounced Roop) and Carole, the matriarch, had 11 kids, and now there are many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All in the cult. I have no doubt Rup wanted that great-grandchild Rilee to stay in the family. Yes, sir!!
