Ford is on the floor, out of frame.

(57,772 posts)I don't recall Ford smoking a pipe. I think Ike did.

(3,451 posts)Look at what those bastards did to his party. I'm old enough to remember when Republicans weren't all flaming assholes, intent on destroying democracy. That was pre-Reagan, of course.

(1,789 posts)Of course, Reagan was just a figurehead. He was already suffering from dementia, but he was a good enough actor to follow a script, at least long enough to hide it. The people behind him are what got this nasty shit that ended up MAGA going. Every Republican after that were just puppets for the regime. The masters are nasty, and now they don't bother to hide it.
I was born during Ike's last year or so, then we got JFK, then Johnson, and then Nixon. If my brain isn't fritzing on me. Even Nixon wasn't that bad. He had his problems, sure, but he didn't actually hate regular Americans. Ford was kind of a placeholder, didn't do much either way that I can remember. Oh, other than make sure the Warren report covered up what it was supposed to.
We only got Dem presidents when the economy needed fixing. The powers behind the scenes needed some more time to get everything in place, make huge amounts of money, and once that happened, hello MAGA idiocy, the front for Project 2025. This stuff has been coming for decades, and to be honest, I'm not so sure a lot of Democrats weren't working it behind the scenes while pretending to be our side.

(98,042 posts)It took me a bit because I was focused on his face. When you look at the hair pulled back at the top of his head and don't ignore all the white space...you can see it as his hair.

I still mutter "Down with Nick Dixon" at least 5 times a day. I don't forget.
