(1,787 posts)Second, theres this thing called the Posse Comitatus Act which limits the Presidents ability to do stuff like this.
Finally, just because youre in the Army doesnt mean you know how to fight fires.
If Trump were President hed probably order in the troops to restore order or some damn thing, whether its legal for him to do it or not.

(595 posts)In the 1970s, Congress established the MAFFS system after a major fire burned into Long Beach, Calif., destroyed hundreds of homes, and overwhelmed the civilian tanker fleet's ability to respond. Today, one Air Force Reserve Command and three Air National Guard locations participate in the MAFFS Program.

(595 posts)It burned all day Tuesday; Wednesday; Thursday; Friday; and, now all day Saturday. High winds, in fact almost hurricane force Santa Ana winds, are forecast for the rest of the weekend and for Monday and Tuesday. That fire is now spreading into Brentwood and Encino -- where is the response from the Federal Government?

(122,585 posts)How do you think the federal government can stop hurricane-force winds? The reality, as Lawrence O'Donnell explained so eloquently, is that the fire won't be controlled until the winds drop, no matter who's trying to fight it. It's a hurricane with fire.

(595 posts)Not responding and doing nothing is no solution to putting out the fire. The U.S. Military can be deployed; FEMA; the Army Corps. of Engineers; the U.S. Air Force. More boots on the ground never hurts in responding to a catastrophe. Does the entire City of Los Angeles have to burn down before the Federal Government acts?

(122,585 posts)and who, exactly, should be doing it?
Tarzanrock
(595 posts)I know exactly what is happening. I'm breathing the toxic, carcinogenic polluted air from these fires.

(71,375 posts)What do you think this deployment should be instructed to do?
Don't talk about delays & deployments.
Answer the question: What is it these troops, almost certainly trained in other specialties, would do?
