A friend in LA volunteered today at Community centers and says they are in urgent need of baby things, gift cards, underwear, and personal items . They are good with clothes right now. Need cash for urgent items so donate to help working class folks in LA.

LAist has requests that are more local than the others, it seems, like volunteering and dropping off goods, so it might be useful for SoCal residents in those respects, but
ALL OF THE ONES LISTED ABOVE LOOK GOOD TO ME.

(6,373 posts)All of your donations go directly to relief work. The administrative costs are paid by the United Methodist Church. They've been at this since WWII, and they aren't there to proselytize, just to provide relief and assistance without regard to race, religion, or status.
There's a specific fund for the California wildfires at https://advance.umcmission.org/p-620-umcor-us-disaster-response-and-recovery.aspx

(1,027 posts)Suggest going to a Dollar Store. Was able to buy toothbrushes, hair brushes, combs, ziploc bags, soap, and many other items x6 for under $150.
Hit target for blankets, underwear, etc. Someone can hopefully provide a better option for blankets and towels.
And if you are retired like me and the spouse, go through the closet. I was shocked at how many good work clothes were hanging clean from the dry cleaner and never touched. A crapload of stuff bought pre covid that were barely worn and hanging in the closet for five years.
